It’s National Sibling Day!

This picture was taken one month and six days after the babies were born. They had been home from the hospital for 6 days and we were finally getting into the swing of things. 8 feedings in 24 hours (24 bottles to prep and clean), pumping every 3 hours and not much sleep. Seeing just how far we have come makes me not only extremely proud of these babies but so insanely proud of my husband and I. We killed it . . Recently the babies had their high risk follow up at the local Children’s Hospital and they scored right in between their actual age (9 mo) and adjusted age (7 mo) in all categories which is such an amazing thing to hear after the wild ride we have been on. In Nigeria’s “Twin Town”, duplicate facial features are a common sight among its residents. The town in the country’s Oyo state is said to have one of the highest birth rates of twins in the world – 50 sets of twins born out of every 1,000 births. Many of the residents from the Yoruba ethnic group believe the occurrence is linked to the food they eat. “There are so many twins in Igbo Ora because of the Okra leaf we eat,” says 15-year-old Kehinde Oyedepo, who is a twin. Oyenike Bamimore, another resident, says she is living proof. “Because I eat Okra leaves a lot, I gave birth to eight sets of twins”. The leaves are used to make a stew that is popular in the town. Visitors to the town are welcomed by a banner that reads the “twins capital of the world” and annual festivals are held in honour of the twins in the community.
