We can learn so much from Dancer Pose if we really take the time to understand it There are many variations, but I’m talking true dancer pose, where the hips try to stay aligned with each other rather than one opening up to the side. The version where the hip opens up to the side allows you to catch the back leg a little easier, but I personally feel like you miss out on a lot of the benefits if you only practice that variation. When we keep the hips aligned, it preps for true splits or hanumanasana, because in true splits, the hips need to stay side by side. Although again, a lot of people force their split by opening up one hip, which is eventually going to be the peak of that pose for them rather than progressing further and also might cause some pelvic issues along the way. Instead of opening up the hip in your dancer or split, use props! A strap for dancer so the hips stay squared, or a block under one hip in full split will allow you to take both poses further. It also allows you to focus on building strength in the glutes and hamstring, which helps to lift the leg higher. If you are trying to flip your grip into king dancer or needle point, that strength in the legs is muuuuch needed. So that you can lift the leg high enough to catch your foot, but also so when you let go of the leg, it doesnt just fling back down to the ground Work on king pigeon if flipping your grip in dancer is something you are trying! Hello #camelpose for day 3 #gettingbendyback . I have tried grabbing my foot several times before but i always felt pain in my hip flexors. This is first time I had no pain in 2 years while grabbing my food in Camel. I still supported my leg with other hand though. This will get better. The main points about Kapotasana or camel pose that hanged my game are: 1) Warm up really good. Not just back, shoulders and spine but hips. Work a lot on those hips and core so your back bend is smooth and more supported as compared to falling back like dead leaf and that is what exactly leads to lower back pain and injuries. 2) For months I practiced this sequence: Activate the core➡️hinge the hips out and lean backwards. Count to 3 and gradually increase to 20. 3) This is just my experience but frog/splits and lots of Surya namaskar with focus on all aspects, especially hips, facilities this bend a lot. For me, it is more smoother when i am really warmed up. . . 4) Use wall for assistance. Some of the accounts that are my personal favorite for learning and deepening back bends are @asanavanessa , and @jessicarichburg . I follow a lot of their tricks to get this baby bend I have. Simplicity VS wow effect ⠀ ⠀ A post of a girl I saw two days ago made me think: she ended the #gettingbendyback challenge with a very simple pose, motivating this choice. ⠀ ⠀ Today I want to do the same! ⠀ It was difficult to start publishing my practice on Instagram, and even now when I do I suffer a bit from publishing anxiety. Cobra / Bhujangasana is a wonderful way to strengthen the spine and a great intro backbend I’m going into a king Cobra variation in the photo - but legs extended, toes pinned down to the ground and elbows bent is a great way to introduce this strengthening backbend into your practice! You can also roll up a towel and place it under the tops of the bony parts on your hip. Adds a lil extra cushion and helps with lift off into king cobra Another version I like practicing is where you keep your arms bent and by your sides, floating the palm off the ground and reaaaallly working the strengthening aspect of this bend! In any cobra variation, think about sending the chest forward and then lifting up, allowing that space to stay in the low back! Give it a try and don’t be afraid to use props!
