Just popping in to mix things up a little and let you know that in six weeks we are moving our family of eight 2,798 MILES AWAY to VIRGINIA. We have wished and prayed for this for months, so just picture us all doing a happy dance. We will be in one of our favorite states, 20 minutes away from both sets of our parents, both of our sisters, and several cousins, 20 minutes from the great city of Washington DC and juuuuust about squared away to move into a nearly 100 year old farmhouse that I can’t wait to show you around. So of course it’s a little crazy but we wouldn’t have it any other way! How do you handle sibling fighting? My boys are 17 months apart and have a love hate relationship. One minute they’re BFF’s the next they’re fighting and wrestling on the floor. For the most part I try to not get involved and let them work it out on their own. However, last night I lost my cool on them during one of their epic battles ... Cue the mom guilt. I used to know a girl. She didn’t love her job but she had a great relationship, great friends and a love for life. At the weekends she could sleep as long as she wanted, have a hot coffee in bed and head out for a leisurely day wandering round the shops or going out for a long lunch. She always had a holiday booked and she loved going to the gym. She didn’t spend her days saying things like ‘stop treading on your brother!’ and ‘who’s pooed now?’ She watched things that interested her on the telly and knew nothing of Paw Patrol or Mr Tumble. She knew things about things and could make people laugh. She remembered her friends birthdays and did whatever she could to make people feel loved. . Now I know a girl who doesn’t get much sleep. Hot drinks give her migraines and she knows every single member of the paw patrol. She tries her best and absolutely loves being a mum. And she has grown in so many ways. But sometimes she has days when she thinks back to the person she used to be and the life she used to have and wonders how it would feel to have that back, even just for a day - an hour. How would it feel to be carefree? To be able to string a sentence together? To have the energy to show the people she loves that she cares. To be able to start a conversation about something more than nappies and teething. . Some days that other girl is still in there, but a lot of the time she’s too tired. Too drained. Her brain is full of baby talk and she knows exactly how to speak to a three year old but has forgotten how to speak to an adult. Adult conversation about things that matter feels like a distant memory and she wants a disclaimer written on her shirt - ‘I promise I’m better than this. I used to be interesting. There’s more to me than this.’ . This phase of life is all encompassing, it’s draining. It takes the person you used to be and stretches and challenges them beyond recognition. We’ll come out the other side stronger, bolder and better than ever but right now all I want is a holiday, some cocktails and to sleep for a week . If you’re currently feeling drained by motherhood please know you’re not the only one ❤️
