In all honesty when I first saw this picture, I decided that I wasn’t going to post it. I felt like I didn’t look “good” enough. I felt like I looked out of shape and had a huge double chin. Then, I looked again and realized, hey my legs look so strong and my hair looks so vibrant. I am running at 7k feet of altitude and having fun. Does it really doesn’t matter what I look like? I was embarrassed for judging myself based on how a picture of me looked. This picture doesn’t show how strong I am. It doesn’t show how hard I work. I had forgotten to show myself the love I deserve and that was so unfair of me. I love myself and my body, even if sometimes I forget for a split second. Does this ever happen to you? Last October I decided that I was going to run my first half marathon in one year. I started training like a #motherrunner until one March morning when I suddenly had to get on a plane to say goodbye to my mom. The day before she died, I promised my mom that she had nothing to worry about even though I still didn't know what my MRI results would be. A few days after that I heard that there was something enlarged on my brain MRI that should not be. It wasn't until a few weeks after that that I discovered that I have developed a version of epilepsy. The hits kept coming and I let them knock pieces from me. I tried to keep running through my dark autumn, but I just couldn't. Now after feeling sorry for myself for long enough, it is time to pivot my attitude and expectations. I might not be fit and ready for 22 kilometres at the Melbourne Marathon in October, but I can pound out 10km! At coffee this morning with an inspirational friend who will be running the full 42.2 for the first time that day, I got my phone out and registered for the Asics 10km run in the Melbourne Marathon. I still get to run into the MCG for the finish, grab a race medal and best of all, show myself that epilepsy and loss haven't taken this away from me. This is your notice. Baby steps, but steps none the less. 2 mile shuffle with some bench dips along the way since I’m trying to consistently (day 2 in a row) to do more cross training also. ‍♀️ Happy Monday #fitfam . Hydrate y’all. It’s hotter than hell out there.

Less than 20 days to go to @grandmasmarathon! . This was from the end of my first long run last year and my longest in maybe...ever. 8 miles that drained me. . Yesterday I ran my simulator and managed the squeeze in PRs in the 5K, 10K and 13.1 at the same time. I laughed, smiled and chatted through it. Gritted out the last 3 miles to have a strong finish but appreciated every step that would end my first marathon peak week. . I look back at this picture and think of all the growth I have gone through as a runner to get to yesterday. . Success isn’t linear. Embrace the highs and the lows. They both have lessons but one thing I learned in this training cycle is to NEVER give up on yourself.

This evening was a fantastic @lincolnshirerunner shop run with lots of great people! Got to see @willgoodacre @kirky_99 @sammy.howells and @hayholly26 I also had the pleasure of meeting @ladym0707 and got to run and chat with @maxine.laws I thoroughly enjoyed being able to run with other people as I usually do most of my running on my own due to timings and availability.
