One is retroactive, done as an afterthought, and the other is proactive, done as an intentional investment in human beings. . While I’m grateful for all of the wonderful things that happen this week and while I don’t want to take away from teachers who deserve to be appreciated, we need to complement the conversation during #TeacherAppreciationWeek with advocacy for teachers and the teaching profession. . Too many teachers do not get paid a livable wage, forcing them to work multiple jobs to make ends meet. We can’t possibly do right by our kids if we have to work more than one job just to gain access to the privileges that many other college-educated professions already have access to. We are, after all, building the foundation for all of those other professions. . This week, when appreciating your colleagues—or if you’re a parent and this week you are appreciating your child’s teachers—go the extra step towards advocacy. Getting allll the treats and goodies ready for Sawyer’s daycare teachers this week! Everything came from Target this year, and we’ll be sending something little in each day. Sawyer has three teachers in his class, so it looks like a lot. In case you need some ideas for this week, here’s what we’re sending: ▪️Monday: Burt’s Bees Chapstick & @creativeclipsclipart notepads ▪️Tuesday: Their favorite candy ▪️Wednesday: Coffee & Snacks ▪️Thursday: Summer caddy filled with summer-themed paper plates, napkins, and straws (all from the $1 section), sunscreen, summer-themed kitchen towel, candy ▪️Friday: Target gift card Since enrolling my own child in daycare, I continue to be utterly amazed and grateful beyond measure at what these ladies do for my toddler. It’s so much more than teaching. It’s a day filled with hugs, playing, laughter, tantrums, tears, modeling empathy and kindness, showing what it means to share, use manners, potty-training, exploring, and this list could literally go on for-ev-er. We will be forever blessed for what each teacher in his daycare has meant to us. It takes a village, and we are so thankful that our village includes his incredible preschool teachers and school. ❤️ If you are a daycare and/or preschool teacher, or work at a daycare/preschool- THANK YOU for everything you do to get our babies off to the perfect start. If you have kids, nephews/nieces, grandchildren, or even your teammates at school, who help your own students.- Take extra time this week to say Thank You to their teachers!
