Teddy Bear Day made my heart so happy! You know why This is EXACTLY the kind of thing that primary grade students should be doing. We made life-size bar/bear graphs with our teddies, graphed gummy bears, and graphed counting bears. We made handprint crafts and took pictures in front of an easy to set up backdrop. We worked on addition and subtraction and tons of writing skills. We incorporated nonfiction by reading about real bears and compared them with Venn diagrams to our stuffed bears. The kids weighed and measured the bear (or other stuffed animal) they brought in and compared them to their friends’ Bears. They made Teddy Bear Trail Mix for their teddies and finished what their stuffed buddies couldn’t eat. We wore headbands, recited poems, sat on the floor together, and my favorite part was when they tucked their bears in for the night and came in the next day to see all the mischief they got into. They LOVED writing about what they thought happened during the Teddy Bear Sleepover. This resource is jam-packed with tons of ways to have fun and make memories and I just uploaded it to my store making it 1/2 off the first 24 hours! Follow the link in my profile to grab it. Morning messages are something I truly believe are so powerful! A daily message written for the class that highlights one aspect of the learning day ahead, is a simple but highly effective technique for welcoming students into the classroom, setting the tone for the day, and reinforcing so many academic skills (especially in kindergarten when students are learning what a sentence even is!!!!) . . No it’s not fancy or cute... but I don’t have a smart board (only a pull down screen) so I found writing it on the board works best for us! I used to use chart paper because of the lines and what not, but felt like I was wasting so much paper! @2ndgradesassypants Is it TESTING time in your classroom? I don't mean state testing. I mean "Test the teacher to see if she still wants me to follow the expectations" time. Here's how it was created: 1. Write different acceptable and unacceptable (opposite) choices on post-it notes and spread them across the table. 2. Call up a pair of students to choose one matching color pair of the Post it notes. 3. Students read their notes out loud to the class. 4. Whole class votes to decide where each note goes and WHY each choice is either HELPFUL or HARMFUL to our classroom community. 5. Repeat until all Post its were placed. In a profession where the words undervalued and unappreciated get thrown around a lot, I’d like to take a second in my little corner of the internet to express how extremely loved and fulfilled my job makes me feel. What we lack in respect from (some of) the big people, the little people make up for in pure whole-hearted love. There is not a single other profession where 30+ hearts shine your way every day, and to me that is all the value and appreciation I have ever needed✨ This baby angel was standing in my morning line today with this surprise and said “These flowers made me think of you, I love you” ... and then I unsuccessfully tried not to cry
