There is a lot of negativity cloaked in “body positivity” — “imagine how much you’d accomplish if you didn’t spend your time working out/counting calories/etc.” — “you’ll gain it all back after a 130 lbs weight loss, it’s not sustainable, any restriction is bad, your self worth is not defined by a before and after picture” — y’all have the right to whatever body you want and whatever practice makes you feel happy and fulfilled. I don’t owe anyone an explanation for mine. I am happy practicing the discipline that gets me up at 4:30 AM to feel the joy of running. I am happy practicing the discipline of nourishing my body with the food that makes me feel good and fueled. On the left, my first 5k after fighting through Couch to 5k. 55 minutes! On the right, just finished a 62 mile bike/3 mile run brick in the peak phase of Ironman training (with 11 marathons, 4 ultramarathons, and 2 Half Ironman triathlons ✅). Do what you love, and let others do the same. From 404.4 lbs to 194.4 lbs naturally, in my 40s in just under two years is something I can proudly say I have accomplished. Truth.

BUT, Every single time I look back on a day like this one, #ThrowbackThursday, it is with complete gratitude, infused with an attitude of compassion and fired by a spirit of determination to share the hard truths I’ve learned along the way.

I have NOT arrived!!!
I am and forevermore intend to be a work in progress.
In fact, quite literally, as each new layer of my physical self is revealed there are accompanying areas of growth required in mindset and within the core/essence/heart and soul of who I AM beyond this body that carries me from place to place.

One of the most important layers I’ve peeled away is the idea that my size (the circumference of space I occupy as a set of cells on the planet) and the weight of that space does not equal what I am worth or whether or not I am worthy (or deserving) of value.

Hear me again: our human body weight does not equal our worth and you are worthy regardless of what you might weigh. Check ✅

Our worth or worthiness is also not based on the things we do, the accomplishments we check off, the ranks, the status’, the titles (omg please stop making your life’s mission to brand yourself a “title”), your worth is not the awards, recognitions or assignments you get.
Nothing you can do, say, accomplish, attain or collect can add to OR TAKE away from, your worthiness or value.

right now,

This is something that catches out so many people. It's a new year, new you, so you stock up on all the best healthy foods and give your diet a complete overhaul. But then it's 6 weeks later and you haven't lost weight - or worse still, you've gained weight! It can be really frustrating - you've worked really hard to stay on track with your new "healthy" diet and it's all been for nothing! So what gives? Well, the thing is this - all foods whether they are "healthy" or not, contain calories. And as we all know - if you consume more calories than your body requires - you gain weight.⠀⠀⠀

Yes, these foods have a whole host of nutritious positives - the healthy fats in avocado, the fibre and iron in granola/oats, the antioxidants in dark chocolate. Yes, there are benefits to having all of those in your diet and they should by no means be excluded. But when it comes to fat loss, the calorie is king. A calorie surplus from avocado will lead to weight gain the same way that a calorie surplus from chocolate will. ⠀⠀⠀

The point is - if you're not measuring your calorie intake (at least in the beginning), you can't know how much you're taking in. This makes fat loss quite difficult. This is why I have so many people telling me that they "eat clean" yet can't lose weight. It's a question of energy balance - the amount of calories you take in vs the amount of calories your body is burning. Tip that scale in favour of more calories burned than consumed and you'll achieve weight loss. It really is that simple. But eating "only healthy foods" alone isn't enough - unless you know and track the quantity of these foods and the corresponding calorie content - you don't know where you stand.⠀⠀⠀

Holy crap ... I finally made it to my half way goal! I have officially lost 50 lbs... this has been the best #weighinthursday ever! The say "What happens if you don't quit? " Is true.
For all of you that are struggling... I want you all to have this feeling... so please please please..pick yourself up and start again.... look at me... I screw quite a bit..but I am now half way to my goal.... if I would have stopped..i wouldn't be here now... It's taken a lot longer to lose this weight.. but I'm 50lbs lighter than i would have been... Just remember #youareworthit #iamworthit... we are on this crazy journey together... So much has changed in my life and I’m so grateful for it everyday. I’m grateful for my strength. I’m grateful for my determination. I’m grateful that I allowed myself to learn from mistakes instead of just giving up because of them. I’m just so damn grateful to that girl sitting in that chair for digging down deep and keeping her head up during this journey. We all want to clap for the one in the red dress but that girl in the chair, she’s the real rockstar! She kept going!! She didn’t have any of the reward yet and didn’t even know if she was gonna get it, yet she loved herself enough to want more and to go and TRY to get it for herself. I love that girl@sitting in that chair and I’m so damn thankful for her strength, determination and willingness to keep going when everything felt like it was crumbling in around her. I’m that girl in the red dress and I’m still that girl sitting in the chair:) I’m damn proud of both of them for all their strength and for being as strong as they are! Love yourself throughout this journey. Give yourself the credit you deserve and acknowledge how incredible it is that you’re trying to better yourself it takes true strength and perseverance and if you’re on this train you are already a badass in my humble opinion

Soooo while I was in Greece my boyfriend proposed, and I said yes!! It was totally unexpected but it was perfect, on an island at sunset, after we had just had dinner/desert and we we’re sipping coffee. ♥️
I don’t talk about him much on here because I try to keep this account focused on my weight loss, and he’s also kinda internet shy, but he’s my best friend and I’m so happy! I absolutely love my ring, but apparently he used one of my old rings to get the size and it’s actually too big! At least 2 sizes! which is weird because I was always self conscious about my chubby fingers and always had hypothetical anxiety about if the ring would be to small, if anyone ever proposed to me. So I was sorta stoked that it was too big rather than too small. But anyway, now I’m wondering if I should wait to get it resized until I lose the rest of the weight/we get married, or should I get it resized now and again later I’m thinking of getting one of those temporary band sizers, but it seems like there’s a lot of different kinds. Why should I do Please leave any suggestions below! ♥️
