Yesterday I had a consultation with top podiatrist @delpierrepodiatry at the @sportscience_sa so that he can make me a pair of orthotics for my new #onshoes running shoes. It was a very interresting experience as he analyzed my gait and had a look at the anatomy of my feet. Here is what we found: Video 1: ➡️When I run there is very little "hip drop" should you draw a line between one hip and the other... Possibly as a result of strong core muscles as well as strong hip stabilizers☑️ ➡️There are 2 types of running styles that Chris described as: "ramp model walk" where the person puts one foot after the other quite close to the midline or "wet/full nappy walk/run" where the hips and foot placing is wider apart as if there's something between the legs.... I'm happy to be option 1 (as you can clearly see on the video) ☑️ ➡️My cadence of 150 strides per minute is poor.❎ The optimum cadence for top athletes are around 180 strides per minute so I'm going to work at improving mine with Chris' recommendation of downloading a metronome app to my phone and use it to guide me. I already did my first 10k run at 160 strides/minute yesterday afternoon and will aim to get at least to 170 in months to come. . Video 2: ➡️The tendons that run on top of my meta tarsals are tight at a result of age related forefoot anatomical changes. ❎ ➡️Start of bunions, especially right foot is interfering with normal foot mechanics ❎ ➡️The way my big toe moves laterally accross towards the other toes is not ok❎ ➡️Underneath my forefoot I once would have had a lot more fatty tissue for cushioning (check a child's foot underneath) but as a result of older age that diminishes and leaves the foot very boney under there which can cause stress fractures if I do ongoing high mileage on the road.❎ So the verdict @delpierrepodiatry will expertly create a pair of orthotics that will take care of ALL those anatomical issues in my feet to give me the longivity I desire as a mastersathlete and Age Group #spartan . . #podiatrist #podiatry #runner #spartan #ocrtraining #obstaclecourseracing #spartantraining #2019goals #roadtotahoe #onshoes #oncloudflyer #oncloudshoes #mastersathlete #over50fitness

Growing up I always dreamed about becoming a physician. However, as a first generation medical student, my journey to medical school took a bit longer. I worked my way throughout both undergrad and graduate school where I obtained my MBA focused in Healthcare Management. I spent the better part of my first career working on the business side of healthcare and spent some time getting a family business off the ground. I originally applied to all medical school routes, and was ultimately accepted to both DO and DPM programs. I fell in love with Podiatric Medicine from the moment I shadowed my first DPM. It has been the best decision I have ever made and I hope to share my experience with all of you. Throw to my first real, “big girl” audition for a short film last month! Day 4; touchdown in Cape Town and we hit the ground running! Started off with a walk around #vandawaterfront and lunch followed by hike up #lionshead ! I must say the hike to the top was considered VERY challenging for us. It started off easy but there were areas where you have to climb up the side of the mountain. In fact when we were 5 min away from the summit we turned around because it got very steep and we just didn’t feel comfortable especially since we were hitting sunset and would have to hike back down in the dark. ‍♀️ I personally would rate this hike as difficult for us , not for amateurs! Also when researching most people said 45 min to an hour for us it took about 2 ! . .
