It was recorded on May 21, 1974 at Hec Edmundson Pavilion in Seattle. It was released as a vinyl LP in a limited edition of 7,400 copies on November 23, 2018, as part of Record Store Day Black Friday. *** The album contains only one song, "Playing in the Band". At 46 minutes in length, it is the longest continuous Grateful Dead song ever recorded. This recording was previously released earlier in 2018 as part of the albums Pacific Northwest '73–'74: The Complete Recordings and Pacific Northwest '73–'74: Believe It If You Need It.

Spun Robin Trowers Bridge of Sighs this morning and came to the conclusion that this album is not underrated, but a bit forgotten when it comes to hard rock in the 70’s. Released on 420 of 1974 this is Trowers second solo album after leaving the highly influential Procol Harum. It turned out to be quite the commercial success as it reached #7 on the U.S. charts and many of the songs such as the title track and “Too Rolling Stoned” became live staples for the power trio, but do I ever hear anybody talking about this album these days? My answer is a flat out no. I’m sure this album was everywhere upon its release, but I just never see or hear anyone give this album its due. It’s a perfect representation of its time being a bluesy and hard rock album that’ll give you strong Hendrix vibes and fans of Mr. Trower definitely know how much he loved him some Jimi. Also a fun fact about the album is that Robin got the album name from a racehorse with the same name. If you’re unfamiliar with this album I strongly suggest giving it a chance and I assure you you won’t be disappointed.

Taking a break from my 70's posts to talk a bit about Elton, Rocketman, and Russia. I was and still am so arrested by the beauty and brilliancy of Rocketman that I haven't stopped listening to the soundtrack and Elton himself in days. I can't take my hat off enough to @taron.egerton @dexfletch @maddenrichard @brycedhoward @palecriminal @eltonjohn @davidfurnish Jamie Bell, Giles Martin, and anyone else who contributed to the film in even the slightest. I rarely gush this much about anything at all so you know I am sincere in saying this film will stay with me for a very long time. It's just that good. Of course, in a depressing but totally predictable twist, Russia's local film distributor has cut all amorous gay scenes from the film. If that wasn't bad enough, they've also cut one of the final captions of the film - the part where the film explains to the audience how Elton has found love with his husband and has gone on to raise two sons with him. If this doesn't infuriate you, it should. For all of the obvious reasons of course, one being that it's 20goddamn19 and who you love and are attracted to shouldn't matter - but also because this is the censoring of an actual human being's life story, as he lived it and loved in it. On top of it, this all comes right on time for Pride month; and in the most ultimate twist in irony: Elton has always been really good to Russia. In fact, he was the first Western rock musician to perform in Russia at all. He would go on to play close to 30 different shows there over the decades. One of those shows, with Ray Cooper, took place on May 28, 1979 in Moscow and was released this RSD on beautiful 180g clear vinyl. This is a must have for any Elton fan, but also for anyone who loves a sick live show.
