i’m thankful for my struggle because without it i wouldn’t have stumbled upon my strength. - @alex_elle at a very young age i was taught to suppress any kind of emotion that can be seen as “weak.” i remember walking into my mother’s room, seeing her cry, and quickly being shooed out the room to give her privacy. i remember watching my mom clean every single day, and laughing at her because i honestly didn’t understand why she would deep clean the same things over and over. it wasn’t until three months into marriage that i realized that those very things my mom was doing were coping mechanisms to anxiety and depression. i had picked up my mother’s mannerisms to deal with my mental illness, and to be honest i thought i could handle it on my own. the past couple years, i’ve learned that my mental health has a huge part in not just trying to bring life into this world, but also helping me live at ease. while i have a home church, my creative outlet, and amazing friends and family, i value the art and beauty of therapy. earlier this year i went on @therapyforblackgirls and found my amazing therapist. while it’s been incredibly stretching and out of my comfort zone to sit and share space with my therapist, it’s also brought much healing, beauty, strength, and slow into my life. i believe that as i prepare for joy and continue waiting for our rainbow baby, it’s important to cultivate a healthy mindset of joy and contentment. seeking therapy has helped me find peace even in the midst of waiting. : @carographystudios #mymentalwellnessmatters #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #blackmentalwellness #breakthestigmaofmentalillness #ttcafterloss

I’ve made some really epic ones lately (stay tuned ), and one that while it didn’t turn out the way I would have liked it to — I did learn to love myself more in the end. (Oh wait, maybe that was the Big U’s plan! Sneaky.) But anyhoo... how amazing is it that we consciously create our reality like a “choose your own adventure” novel that we get to write as we go?! More interestingly, have you noticed that the more same old decisions we keep making means the same old chapter we will keep re-living? Getting back into the groove of bouquet stitching. Sooooo many gorgeous bouquets came in last week and I am SO EXCITED for a summer filled with stitching them all up. ✨ . . A lot of people have asked me how I started stitching, and I figured today would be a good day to tell the story. So here it goes- I started stitching when I was 5. At that time, it was just piecing fabric together. Both my grandmothers were quilters, and so they taught me how to thread a needle, how to tie a knot at the end of your thread and how to stitch. Then, as I grew older, I learned embroidery and cross-stitch. I was always stitching, writing or putting on plays for a pretend audience. So it’s funny that that’s what I do now for work. (Though the audiences are real now ). . . Happy Friday friends! I’m so excited for the weekend. I have an engagement session planned and then I’m celebrating my very first Mother’s Day with Ellie! I have quite a few new followers so I’d love to introduce myself (Hi I’m Liz!) and tell you some random facts about myself. I’m scared of clowns, snakes, failure, and heights. I once went up several flights of stairs only to find myself “stuck” at the top. My husband (boyfriend at the time) had to carry me back down. I was born in a small town in Tennessee (basically on a farm) but now live in downtown Chicago with a skyline view instead of cows. I’m sitting in this photo with two plants that I really love, but if they were at my house they would surely die. I do not have a green thumb. Public speaking used to frighten me but I kinda like it now. I still get nervous though! I took a speech class in college (I thought I was going to die from anxiety and heat rashes haha) but in the end, it became my favorite class. I now teach workshops and mentoring sessions, and speak to other entrepreneurs at networking events. Dogs are my pet of choice and I love cuddling with my 8 year old maltichon pup Charlie.
