Last week marked 2 years since I ditched the booze and went sober. . . . I didn’t post about it as I’d hit a low again and was trying to hide from the world. And this week I have a stinking cold too so not feeling particularly better. . . . But I listened to a few podcasts today by @theunruffledpodcast and @lovesoberpodcast and I was overwhelmed with gratitude again for my sobriety. And reminded why I want to shout it from the rooftops. . . . So I’m posting now despite feeling rubbish to say thank you to all the amazing sober friends I now have @nofiltersobriety @mandy_lovesober @love.sober @blueangelsoberista. I am so grateful you’re in my life. Thank you. . . And to say to the world that sober may sound boring, it certainly gets a bad press, but it is awesome. You may not believe it. I know I didn’t. But I did listen to those who said it was and I kept hope alive in the early days (thanks to fellow @soberistas). My relationship with alcohol was a particularly unhealthy one. Maybe that’s why ditching it feels quite so damn good. All I can say is it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself and my family. And it feels wonderful. . . . Today I just feel so lucky and so grateful and really really want to share that . . . #wearetheluckiest #sobriety #alcoholfree #soberlife #freedom #alcohol #addiction #recovery #onedayatatime #soberistas #quitlit #soberinspiration #betterwithoutbooze #lovesober #reasonstolovesober #teetotal #teetotaler #gratitude #positive #strength #aa #abstinence #2yearssober

In 2018 I became teetotal, a decision spent 3 years in the making Most people assume that I don’t drink due to my training & that’s partly true, but there’s a little more I want to share in hope it’ll help someone even if only in the tiniest way . 2005-2015 me liked to drink (a lot) which I’m not saying is uncommon for someone in their late teens/early 20s, but drinking to the extent of constantly blacking out, having emotional melt downs & putting oneself in dangerous states has become so normalised we hardly consider it an issue... which is really worrying . Flashback to 2014... I woke up in a Thai hospital with no recollection of how I got there or what happened to find 3 stitches in my head because I'd face planted the floor... thankfully I was taken in without being mugged or worse & made a quick recovery Upon sharing on social media it was passed off as ‘banter’... I mean drinking yourself into a state like this is not okay, but somehow I was deemed a champion & ‘hilarious’ for it... . I drank to make myself feel confident, to be this funny person everyone seemed to love & ultimately because it was expected of me... that’s who I was It was actually running myself into the ground from partying too much & spending 3 months on antibiotics that made me step away from alcohol While enjoying sober nights, I realised that I didn’t need to rely on alcohol to have fun & my body felt a lot better without it – I often had people join me not drinking, grateful to have a ‘reason not to drink too’ & it made me realise that we are often peer pressured without even realising it . I have nothing against alcohol, but I didn’t know when to stop, it got me into more physical & emotional trouble than I care to (or can) remember & had a huge negative impact on my mental health, which is the reason I’ve cut it out completely ❌ At first it felt scary going against expectations, but now I couldn’t be happier & prouder to be an alcohol free me ❤ . Please don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone to do what’s right for you if something’s impacting your life in a negative way – the important ones around you will understand & want the best for you

THANK YOU!! ✨ 2018 has been one of the best years of my life. I completed my sobriety challenge for @mindcharity and raised a total of £2,300 (more than double my target) I’m taking down my just giving page tonight so last chance to donate through link in my bio. Not only have I carried on my sobriety but I found that being sober is something that I am truly passionate about and want to share with the world. It has changed my life for the better in so many ways and I’m entering 2019 more empowered and excited than ever. Thank you for your ongoing support. Now, @dryjanuary2019 who’s in?! ✨

#throwbackthursday is always such an exciting time. But let me tell you something. In my first year of sobriety I went on a deleting and untagging rampage. I was so embarrassed and ashamed of the woman in those party pictures I couldn’t bear even seeing them. I wanted to act like I was never that party girl. I wanted nothing to do with her. I even considered closing down my Facebook and starting a new one, but never got around to it. ‍ — Fast forward a few years and I’m grateful I never deleted my account and started over, and I’m finally in a place where looking at old party photos isn’t incredibly painful. In fact, I’ve used my Facebook account A LOT to help me weave the correct timing and narrative in my memoir. I also now enjoy seeing what I used to physically look like and how much I’ve changed since then. I am proud of how far I’ve come. But most importantly I don’t wish that old party girl away anymore. I don’t try to delete or untag her past. She is a part of me and there is no shame in that. In order to grow we must accept ourselves and our past experiences, not act like they never happened. Now I get to look at those photos and think yeah, OF COURSE I’m sober, and I wouldn’t be me without all of those experiences. Image via @soberfix

ADDICTION Here is to one year sober (swipe right for my best Jabba the hut impression). Addiction is a constant learning curve and if someone told me I’d be teetotal I would have laughed them out the room (whilst sinking a number of tequilas). • Understanding that alcohol is just a symptom of the disease is important, you then become aware that cross-addiction is a powerful thing and learning to manifest that aspect of your personality into positive things is key. • The truth is I struggle to moderate just about anything in life which is why I had to leave alcohol behind. Learning to go out sober, being on holiday sitting in the sun without drinking rosé, things I could never imagine myself doing previously became manageable, even enjoyable when I understood that the feeling of FOMO doesn’t need to exist anymore, I could be present and just chose to avoid the alcohol. • When it comes to peer pressure, eventually friends understand (some do straight away) why you’ve made the change and get behind you, and that is one of the main reasons I have managed to continue being sober; support of the people closest to me. • I do understand balance is key and I’m still trying to find it in other aspects of my life but I post this to anyone who feels trapped in that vicious cycle of boozing/binging.. there is a way to break it! And cheers to all you lucky fu***** who can moderate a couple of vino’s and enjoy a blowout every now and then.✌️ • : @lucapeterson • #Sober #Teetotal #Fitness #Crossfit #Redroom #BarrysSW1 #Transformation #Addiction #Youcandoit #alcoholism #transformationtuesday
