She’s doing more than enough. Maybe even too much. I’d remind her the softness of her thighs and fullness of her belly is beautiful. I’d remind her that to be a tiny person’s entire world is as magical as it is exhausting. I would reassure her that one day she will feel herself again— that one day when the tears and the breast milk dry up she will step into herself as a new woman. And that it’s okay to feel what she feels and ask for support... lots more support. I’d hold her in my arms and remind her to just breathe. Sweet relief . . I was tired and I just wanted to sleep. At one point I requested to be taken to the hospital to cut her out. I’m glad my midwife knew me well enough to know that was the sleepiness talking. Moments later, Violet was born. TRANSITION. The worst part of labor in my opinion. Shit gets real. I always think to myself, “why the fuck did I decided to do this!” Shortly after, the baby comes and I remember why I chose to become pregnant. Every minute of every day, I am thankful for my power and her existence.
