There will never be a “faces of KINSTRETCH” on a banner in your local Lululemon. ⠀ You know which ones I’m talking about- the yoga girl smiling in her perfect asana. ⠀ Too bad everyone doing KINSTRETCH looks like they’re being tortured or about to poop their pants. ⠀ Anyways- I actually *like* how we don’t have to try and make a flow-y class. ⠀ Nothing wrong with flows. I just think it gets competitive to make them pretty and aesthetic. ⠀ Nothing is competitive in my KINSTRETCH class. ⠀ Everyone’s just working on themselves to #makeshitworknice (quote by Dr. Spina) ⠀ But- at the end of my personal practice- I occasionally like to just piece some isoMP’s together to make what appears to be a little flow. Not for the purpose of flowing. But just to check in and make sure shit is working nice. ⠀ Work on the parts. Then the sum of the parts will work nice. ⠀ The goal is to not get better at KINSTRETCH. The goal is to use KINSTRETCH as a tool so you can get better at whatever you want to get better at. ⠀ Sports. Flows. Lifting weights without pain. Picking up your kids. Whatever your activity is. Again, utilizing rotation to improve a linear motion (Flexion). We had Chin-Ups & Overhead Presses on this day, so we want to both: . 1️⃣. Prepare the tissues for the positions they’re going to be in for the training session (End Range Shoulder Flexion) ➡️ Which will hopefully improve performance for that specific training session. . 2️⃣. Keep working, in conjunction with other things they/we are doing, to create long-term adaptations, in this case within the shoulder capsule, to allow for more flexion to occur. . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ FRS Master Instructor @danajohnflows ・・・ for Cueing ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Side-laying Hip CARs variations (1/2, Capsule) from a couple weeks ago at @kinstretch certification course @humantwopointzero in Ottawa ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Side-laying base-position is one of my favourite variations to first teach someone about there hip due to the bio-feedback the ground gives the opposite side of the hip. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The side-laying setup also allows more “access” to hip without involving gravity as much as it would in comparison to standing or quadruped which can be a good first teaching tool when teaching CARs for the hip. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I usually like to emphasize spending more time behind the ear in the side-laying variation, this is a common ‘’sticky-zone’’ and in the side laying variation, this can allow someone to slow down that motion and spend more time where it sucks as opposed to other variations. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You can progressively over-load this bad boy in many ways, but a couple that I’ve been tinkering with are: a side-frame (side plank position) or add some external load with ankle weights along with a straight leg. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✴️Personal Kinstretch Practice✴️ @jackhanrahanfitness #FunctionalRangeSystems ・・・ Stiff hips? This 5 minute #selfcaresunday mobility routine is for you! . 1️⃣ 90/90 stretch. Start in a 90/90 position - Thigh should extend in front of your shoulders with a 90 degree angle at the knee. Back thigh extends out to the side with a 90 degree angle at the knee. . To find the stretch, think about trying to hover your belly button over the front shin while making an attempt to tilt the tailbone up. You should feel this deep under the front hip / glute region. . 2️⃣ kinetic stretch. After the passive stretch - we do an active stretch. Extend your inside arm out to the side. Pull yourself into the stretch by thinking about lifting the front shin off the ground (imagine trying to pop a balloon between thigh and torso). Then press shin down to push yourself out of it. . 3️⃣ Internal rotation stretch. Place sole of your foot against back thigh. Attempt to square shoulders to the back shin. You should feel this deep at the front hip - it’s a weird feeling because it’s stretching the hip capsule. . 4️⃣ Kinetic stretch. Rotate your body in and out of the stretch actively. . 5️⃣ Hip opener. Keep the front knee glued down. Post up onto the big toe, drive the knee out to open the hips. Plant the heel and create as much distance between your knees as possible. . 6️⃣ Transition and repeat on the opposite side. . As always, I would love your feedback about the routine.
