I made this alphabet board for Lucy about a year ago. I collected a gazillion (well 26 to be exact ) plastic bottles, cut off the neck and glued those onto the back of a cheap whiteboard from @kmartaus #kmarthack . She hasn’t played with it much until now. All of a sudden she has taken quite an interest in her letters and this activity, combining a little fine motor exercise, is just right up her alley. #kmartforthewin #ridgydidgeresources #innovation

How’s your emotional intelligence? Do you think it needs some work? What about your kids? Research tells us that emotional intelligence is likely to be a better predictor of future success for our kids than IQ. But how many of us are explicitly teaching these skills to our kids? Are you? Do you talk to your kids about their emotions? Do you play games that help them build their social and emotional skills? Do you practice mindfulness with them? Give them tools to regulate and manage their feelings? Or does your own emotional intelligence pose a bit of a problem? Do you tend to ignore your own feelings? Fly off the handle when you’re triggered? Do you expect your kids to manage their emotions on their own because that’s what was expected of you as a child? Do you need some tools and skills of your own? We cannot learn skills that we were never taught. And that is why Mindful Little Minds exists. I am so passionate about this topic (just in case you haven’t noticed yet! ). . It is vitally important for our children that they develop emotional intelligence. It is vital that we teach it to them. Their parents and their teachers. They cannot learn these skills on their own. And they cannot reach their full potential without them. But since many of us never learned these skills ourselves as children, we are at a complete loss when it comes to teaching them to our own kids. We have no idea what to do or where to start. Though most of us know just how important they are, right? . So I’m here to give you the skills you need to teach your kids. You absolutely CAN teach them to regulate their emotions. To build empathy, and self awareness and resilience. To improve their social skills and feel happier, more confident and more fulfilled in life. It is possible. Check her out!!! I’m not so creative like you might to think. We were using the FREE printables from Canon Creative Park to build our Coral reef with kids. The echinus was made by my 5 yr son using the black spaghetti and play dough in the same color. All other creatures by my 13 yr son. It was so fun!!! Hi and Assalaamu Alaykum! . I think it's about time I did an introductory post. As some of you may know, my name is Yusra, wife and mother to four - 5,5,3 and 1. I've been married now for 7 years, my husband is my rock and homeschooling was one of the best decisions we made. In this space you will find me sharing our homeschool journey, thoughts and reflections from the heart and some ramblings on parenting, lifestyle and being a muslim... In the pursuit of trying to make every step, a step closer to the ultimate happiness of meeting our Lord. A few random facts about me: - My family and I uprooted and lived in 22 homes before I got married and moved away. - I'm crazy about extreme sports and would love to complete a bucket list. - My fuel is tea, British-style. - I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Statistics.. - Babies and toddlers don't deter me when it comes to traveling (even from Australia) and it's the one thing I look forward to the most every year. Seeing my family and vacationing. - From a long list of favourite authors as a child, two were: #agathachristie and #sirarthurconandoyle . - I love the cacophony of sounds a large family makes. - I'm especially fond of bookshelves, cosy sweaters and greenery. - I am perpetually seeking the infinite beauty in nature and good books - I excell at arcades and laser tag - I love doing all the voices, accents and dramatic scenes when reading to the kids and truly believe neither my sisters nor husband are up to par. - I am mildly (might be biased here) addicted to checklists and making things look pretty and organised. . Whilst you read, I pray that whatever enlightenement is mine will also be yours, whether that is in the form of motivation, comfort or inspiration. To remember all bounties and success are from God, and whatever He has blessed my family with, it is from His graciousness alone. REFLECTING ⭐ Today I spent the majority of the day without my kids. It was a strange feeling but it reminded me how much I need to do my own thing sometimes. It made me realise that I've missed working life. I haven't had many "proper" jobs. My last job was as a PhD student but I quit my PhD 2 years ago. There are a number of reasons for this but mainly I wanted to focus on my children. So, I've spent the last 2 years being at home full time, homeschooling the kids during the day and working on my blog and other projects late into the night. I enjoy what I do, I really do, but today made me wonder if I could be doing more. If I could somehow do something to make a difference. If only I knew the right people, mixed in the right circles, who knows. So tonight, I will spend time reflecting. On what I've been doing for the last couple of years and what I can do to move forward and make a difference. To see more, watch my stories.
