Last night was a big night for Olivia, I just didn’t know it until this morning. Liv has coslept with me since the day she was born. We’ve snuggled countless hours at night and during day naps, moments I wouldn’t trade for all the free time in the world. It was never my plan to cosleep, it was quite the opposite, but when she came Earthside everything changed. Now more then ever, I was never sure if we’d be able to have more children and I knew I needed to enjoy every kiss and every snuggle possible. Sleeping with Liv and being there for her anytime she needed me just felt natural to me. Don’t get me wrong, we had our rough nights where I hated cosleeping, but in hindsight, I was only doing what was best for us despite peer pressure to let her “cry it out” or make her sleep alone. At some point, I finally accepted that while those methods are perfectly fine for others, it just wasn’t for us. While putting Liv to bed last night, my husband tried coaxing her into her new Frozen bed that she’s been hesitant to sleep in. She loves her bed and will lay in there and play, but she has yet to sleep in it , until last night. I was expecting her to maybe sleep in there until midnight and then wake up looking for me, but she didn’t. She slept the entire night, woke up at 7 AM and then came and snuggled with me. Of course sleeping alone and being able to have the entire bed to myself for the first time in 2.5 years was amazing, but for the first time at night, she didn’t need me. I woke up feeling extremely bittersweet about this milestone. Maybe this will become her new routine and she will no longer need me at night anymore.  Maybe it was a fluke and she’ll go right back to cosleeping tonight. During my pregnancy, everyone told me to cherish the long days because the years were extremely short. At the time, I would just say yes and roll my eyes while walking away thinking, “well, duh.” Now I know exactly what they were talking about, these moments where you wake up one day and your newborn baby has suddenly grown up before your eyes. New mommas, seasoned mommas, soon to be mommas…. Enjoy every single second, it really does fly by.

— it’s been a long hard week & I almost didn’t share this photo because I felt so self conscious. but honestly, who really cares that my hair is going grey & that my bathroom mirror is filthy (along with the rest of our house)? not my sweet girls. & can we be real for a second, because this photo is about so much more than that. it’s about this moment. Maeve’s pure-happiness smile, & those proud mama feelings that fill my empty cup; every. single. day. & even though this is the most challenging chapter of my life, it is also the most beautiful. so, here’s to always getting in the photos, mama. embracing the grey hair, the no showers, that elusive thing called sleep. you are enough.
