Back in July, when I visited the camp I went to as a student and worked at during college, we talked a lot about our identity in Christ; that we have been forgiven and made whole, that our past does not define us anymore and the opinions of mankind don’t define our worth or purpose. Our purpose in life is to know God and make Him known, and in knowing who God is we can better know who we are. But how many of us do? And not only that, how many of us actually live it out? We can read all the Christian fiction books we want, and although they may be great tools filled with wisdom from personal experience, the Word is our only true source to understand who we are and Whose we are. May we not neglect spending time in it, for numerous reasons, but in regards to our identity, if we avoid studying Scripture, we’ll only ever be lost and asking a world with tainted lenses to give us broken and false opinions. I don’t know why any of us would do that when God’s Word says some powerful things about who we are: . Beloved (John 15:9, 1 Thess.1:4, 1 John 3:1) Cherished (James 1:18b, Ezekiel 16:8c) Chosen (Col. 3:12, 1 Peter 2:9, 1 Thess. 1:4) Redeemed (Ephe. 1:7, Lam. 3:58) Worthy (2 Thess.1:11, Matt 10:31, Luke 12:7) Righteous (Romans 5:19, 2 Cor. 5:21) Clean (Hebrews 10:22, Ezekiel 36:25) Forgiven (1 John 1:9 & 2:12, Col. 2:13) Free (Gal. 4:7, 5:1 & 5:13, 2 Cor. 3:17) Courageous (Prov. 28:1b, 1 Cor. 16:13) Blessed (Luke 1:45) Victorious (1 John 5:4, Romans 8:37) Known (1 Cor. 8:3, Psalm 139:1-3) Seen (Psalm 33:13 & 139:15-16, Prov. 5:21) Complete (Ephe. 3:19, Col. 2:10) Enough (2 Cor. 3:5) Established (2 Cor. 1:21, 1 Peter 5:10) Delighted (2 Sam. 22:20, Psalm 18:19) . T H I S I S U S Recently, when I asked what you would like to hear about from me, lots of you said, “marriage”. So I’ve been working out how best to communicate with you about that. I believe an integral ingredient in a healthy marriage is common vision and purpose. You know that you have this when you can sense that together you are creating, co-labouring and ruling in life TOGETHER.
