Me on the left .. in a flare up, in pain, on steroids , infliximab, Pentasa and salofalk enemas, I remember spending my evening out with friends on the toilet, ulcers in my mouth and feeling mega uncomfortable, I was so severe at the time on the left not that long after was when I had my ileostomy. Its Nurses Week! • Oh where to even begin...what would we do without our nurses?! My nurses have been there through every thick and thin moment, and every milestone of my diagnosis and surgery. • My nurses are the ones who taught me about my ostomy. They encouraged me, prepared me, and helped to build my confidence. They led me to believe in myself that I could handle ostomy life, and I could make the best of it. • • My nurses gave me the compassion, empathy, and love that I so desperately needed during the most difficult times in my life. • It takes a special person to be a nurse and to selflessly care for others. To all of the wonderful nurses out there, thank you. 6 months post op When I've shown my stoma bag in the past I've gotten the most positive messages from people telling me how brave I am. Also amongst those, I got messages saying "it's nothing to be proud of" and "you shouldn't be showing that off to everyone". BUT I AM SO PROUD TO BE SHOWING OFF MY STOMA BAG! I went from nearly dying in hospital to living a somewhat 'normal' life in the last 6 months and that wouldn't have been possible without a stoma bag. I haven't been able to do so many things over the last 8 years suffering from severe Crohn's and to see how happy I am now, it feels like losing an organ was worth the risk, pain and tears. My operation was an emergency and so I had very little time to come to terms with everything but I talked to so many people with stomas over social media which helped me a lot. That's why I post pictures with my stoma bag and scars showing- to raise awareness and to seem approachable to other people suffering from Crohn's and Colitis

Ran a 10K! ‍♀️ • Last year I walked it, this year I ran with a walk intermission after mile 3! It took me 26 years of my life to be able to run the whole thing before I got sick, now 1 and 1/2 years after surgery I’m working my way back up to that! Still not quite there but very proud of everything my body can do, even after all it’s been through! Where do I begin? After so many days in hospital beds, ERs, and doctors’ offices, nurses have had an incredible impact on my journey. . They have seen me at my worst. They have helped me at my weakest. They have held my hand through the tears and exhaustion. They have been my advocates. They have encouraged me when I felt the most discouraged. Most importantly, they have been my angels, guiding me through the difficult times. . It takes a special kind of person to be a nurse and I am so thankful to those who dedicate their lives to caring for others at their most vulnerable. I could write a novel about all of the moments when nurses have impacted my life in a positive way throughout this journey and I certainly will never forget their compassion and heart.
