An ostomy is OK . Sometimes it's more than OK. They are often a life saving and life changing accessory that can increase the quality of life for those that need them. . Sometimes it’s not OK. They do have their own challenges at times: leaks, blockages, stoma issues, skin issues, scars, hydration issues, midnight-accidents but despite all these things – they can have a positive impact. . It's important non-ostomates know that an ostomy is OK too. This is why I'm an advocate: to raise awareness, educate by sharing my experience and let others know it's not something to be ashamed of. It can have a happy outcome. . I made friends with my ostomy. It's pretty quiet, doesn't leak much and lets me eat what I like. But it does demand midnight bag empties (yawn). After fighting with my Ulcerative Colitis diseased bowel for 17 years, I know I'm better off with my ostomy. For me, my ostomy is more than OK. And I'm grateful for that. . . . Ran a 10K! ‍♀️ • Last year I walked it, this year I ran with a walk intermission after mile 3! It took me 26 years of my life to be able to run the whole thing before I got sick, now 1 and 1/2 years after surgery I’m working my way back up to that! Still not quite there but very proud of everything my body can do, even after all it’s been through! I’m a daughter, a sister, a co-worker, a pet mom, a friend, and so much more. I am also a patient coach. . Throughout my illness, there were countless people who impacted my journey in very special ways. These people were beacons of light when I was consumed by the darkness. They were nurses, family, friends, and even complete strangers. These people took me under their wing and guided me through a really challenging time in my life. . Women who were born with a vulva, and women who weren't born with one. Women without a vulva or vagina. Women who identify as lesbian, bisexual, heterosexual, queer, pansexual, asexual or any other sexual orientation. Cis women and trans women. Intersex women. Women who work full time, and women who stay at home and take care of their families. Women from all kinds of religious backgrounds, and women without a religion. Women of all shapes and sizes, fat or skinny, tall or short, with dark or light skin, hairy or bald. Women with or without breasts. Women who suffer from a psychological disorder, a trauma, or those who are otherwise mentally damaged. Women who aren't sure if they identify as a woman. Women who are being suppressed, neglected, or otherwise treated badly because they are women. We support all women, because they are human beings like you and me. I practice topless because it feels better with my tight chest, I find it better not to have a tight bra on. The scar tissue around my chest already makes it very tight.
