Thumbs up, surgery went great! We have a long road ahead with recovery but Z is doing absolutely amazing and hanging in there. I couldn’t be more proud of him!! Via the doctors words, “the surgery was much needed, there was zero percent chance that meds would have improved the diseased part so the best thing to do was to remove it” . . Hearing those words made this life changing decision 100% WORTH it! Now prayers for a fast recovery and we can’t wait to get home. . . Another infusion today in the battle with Crohn's. Everybody is facing some type of fight whether you are aware or not. For me, there's an unseen battle under my dress shirts. It’s been a LONG 5 days...but we are finally cleared to get out of here! ✌ . . Zach and I both want to send a huge thank you again to everyone for the kind words, support and prayers. The amount of people who have reached out to us this last week has been unreal and we feel the love. . . There are a handful out there who is/are going through something similar. This is not easy and was one of the toughest decisions we’ve had to make. Together we’ve been through a lot, more bumps in the road then the normal 27 year old but that’s what makes our marriage special and so strong. The amount of courage and strength this guy has is unreal. He’s the definition of a warrior. . . An ostomy is OK . Sometimes it's more than OK. They are often a life saving and life changing accessory that can increase the quality of life for those that need them. . Sometimes it’s not OK. They do have their own challenges at times: leaks, blockages, stoma issues, skin issues, scars, hydration issues, midnight-accidents but despite all these things – they can have a positive impact. . It's important non-ostomates know that an ostomy is OK too. This is why I'm an advocate: to raise awareness, educate by sharing my experience and let others know it's not something to be ashamed of. It can have a happy outcome. . I made friends with my ostomy. It's pretty quiet, doesn't leak much and lets me eat what I like. But it does demand midnight bag empties (yawn). After fighting with my Ulcerative Colitis diseased bowel for 17 years, I know I'm better off with my ostomy. For me, my ostomy is more than OK. And I'm grateful for that. . . . #tbt to the time when my ostomy bag exploded as I was going through TSA and I had to change my bag in the airport bathroom (swipe to see a pic of my small intestine, avoid the last pic if you don’t!) can’t believe how far I’ve come! Even when you’re feeling low, look back at where you started and feel proud for all you’ve accomplished!!! I used to always get stopped for a pat down bc of this lil guy! My favorite thing to do when going through TSA was to show my pouch to the security guards before they could start the pat down and announce ITS AN OSTOMY BAG and watch them be flustered! Sorry I guess I’m just a bully at heart!
