Welcome to: 2️⃣ VIDEO 2: The Smith Machine . As you'll hear in this video, the Smith Machine is great in some aspects, aka, if you have an injury, or really want to isolate a muscle group, or really want to lift heavier but don't have a spotter. . However, the Smith Machine and I have history, and it ain't pretty. When I started at the gym I used to jump on the Smith Machine to do my lunges and squats because it felt easier than free weights, and it gave me a really good 'booty burn' (I CRINGE). . After hammering the Smith Machine for about a year, I started to get various aches, pains and niggles. I remember my knees and lower back being the first to go. Part of this was because the Smith Machine was forcing my body into a certain position to perform the exercise, rather than allowing me to control the motion myself. This created muscular imbalances in my body which caused me a shed-load of issues. ⚙️ . In addition, the Smith Machine supported my body meaning that my stabiliser and inner core muscles didn't switch on, and it soon transpired that the strength I'd built on the Smith Machine wasn't transferrable into other exercises or activities. In fact, if anything, I was still pretty weak, and the only time that I actually appeared to be strong was when I had the comfort of the Smith Machine frame around me. . In summary, using the Smith Machine alone is the LEAST functional and probably one of the most dangerous ways to train.. especially if your form is fucking shit. I completely understand why people jump on the Smith Machine as it's easier to lift heavier weights and 'feel the burn'. But if you're solely using the Smith Machine to achieve your compound movements, I URGE you to try and master these movements without the support of the Smith Machine to prevent a long-term injury and fucked up movement patterns. If you really want to use the Smith Machine, my advice is to use it as a supplement to top things up if you must. . You are far better off building a strong and functional body which is able and injury free, ✅ rather than a big, muscular, damaged mess which is going to catch up with you like it did me. . #smithmachine

This is my top secret, extremely important rehab exercise for my knees - The secret isn't in the exercise itself but in the principle standing behind it - I injured my knees doing some extreme exercises without caution and control, a classic recipe - This is what I've found with a lot of help from the ido portal people i know and some other places: - The key is not avoiding the pain, but approaching it with EXTREME care, I'm obviously not talking about any bones damage, but inflammations - What helped me was stimulating the muscles which were affected by the inflammation - i seeked pain, and then tried to find an exercise that will stimulate the muscles which feel painful - All it is is basic strength training, i would do between 10-50 reps, depending on the difficulty of the exercise, for at least 5 sets - The hard part is finding which exercise will work for the specific injury you have, it's also crucial to be very, very careful. take it extremely slow, and have a lot of patience - Stimulate the pain with the muscles very slowly, trying to gently push your range of motion inch by inch - I am NOT a professional in any way, take my words with caution, i just love exploring my body and i found it working extremely well for me - In this exercise I'm transferring as much weight forward as i need to start feeling the pain, and then i push up, activating the muscles around and in the injury zone while working my way through the pain very slowly with a lot of control and attention - If you find it helpful let me know :) . . . . . #injuryupdate #injurys #pilatesfit #balance #movementsnack #idoportal #injury #movementculture #pilateslovers #personalinjury #idoportalmethod #pilatesbrasil #rehab #movement #pilatesbody #idoportalisrael #pilateslife #injuryprevention #pilatesinstructor #injuryrehab #mobility #pilatesreformer #injuryrecovery #idoportalstudent #pilatestododia #injuryreport #idoportalsquatchallenge #pilatesstudio #injuryfree #gymnastics

Thoughtful Thursday You are not your diagnosis So someone with authority has labelled you, and you have believed them because maybe at some time in your life that was true... But for someone (I.e. doctor, specialist, nutritionist... whoever) who barely spends 15-20mins with you, to give you a label and then for you to give it so much power and let it cripple you for the rest of your life? No. No more! You are the master of your fate you are the captain of your soul Don’t let labels define you, only you know yourself well enough to determine who you truely are Side note we got a new platform and it’s amazing, 95kg feels like a dream! #injuryfree . . . . . #personaltrainer #motivation #lesmills #powerlifting #training #deadlift #gymnastics #girlswholift #stretching #workoutmotivation #happygirl #newzealand

Baddha Konasana Such a great pose. It can often be overlooked in flowing vinyasa classes but it truly is an amazing posture for opening the hips and groins. I pretty much do one every time I practice and have been trying to remember to include it more in my public classes. Don’t get tempted to force the knees down in this pose ‍♀️ instead try to release the top of your thighs bones down towards the floor. The hugging in or release of the thigh bones is so incredibly important in yoga asana and not explained nearly enough. Learning how to steer the pelvis (using the thigh bones) helps to protect both the sacrum and the knees. Learning how to hug the thigh bones into the hip sockets is crucial for so many movements (especially inversions) and learning how to release the thigh bones, like in baddha konasana, for example, helps to safely deepen into the pose while taking some pressure of the knees. If you’re a yoga nerd like me and would like to learn more I talk about alignment of the hips a lot all throughout my Yoga Series One. Link is in my bio. Try baddha konasana out everyday for a week and notice the changes and benefits to your practice ‍♀️✨ @arterium @aloyoga

[Significantly ⬇️ Risk of Injuries in The Gym] . Happy #workoutwednesday! . Great post by @dr.caleb.burgess! . I can personally attest to the accuracy of this quote because I’ve tweaked my back when I was trying to squat a lot of weight after I was #slacking . The same thing happened with overhead shoulder presses as well . And the common denominator? , Doing too much too quickly after a while of #slacking . The reason why it’s so important to recognize this is because when you go back into the gym trying to do more than you can really do at that point, it contributes to form collapse, and improper mechanics which can lead to injury in your workout. ☹️ . Remember this before you go back into the gym trying to do some heavy lifts and high intensity movements after some time off... . And try not to play yourself like I did ... . And slowly progress from a reasonable starting point that you know is best for you! , This will help you stay in the game longer... . So that you can keep unlocking the strong, toned, energetic body that you’re fully confident in! . . . . #mobility #flexibility #mobilitywod #physicaltherapy #fitnesstips #fitnesscoach #fatloss #buildmuscle#toningup #toneup #fitness#fatlossjourney #fitnessjourney #weightlosstips #buildmuscle #womenthatlift #strengthtraining #workouttips #injuryfree #injuryprevention #prehab #backpain #shoulderpain #shoulderpress #overheadmobility #painfreetraining #painfreelifting
