We have been waiting for this day for so long and cannot believe this day is here...With great excitement, Michael and I would like to announce we are expecting!! It will be double trouble in the Martinez Residence...as we are expecting not one but ✌!!! . . . With this incredible news, we wanted to share our journey on how we got here. We have been trying to start a family for almost 4 years and almost 2 years of that we have been going through IVF. We know our announcement can be painful to those still struggling with infertility and we want you to know there’s hope and we are here for you. You do not have to suffer alone. We know the sting when you see yet another baby announcement and you’re just patiently waiting for your turn. Your turn will come...have patience...have faith...and you will have a family in some way. Grateful cannot even begin to describe how we feel and that we are so fortunate to be in the position we are in. It was an amazing, cathartic, and soul searching journey that I will forever be thankful for. A dire situation that ultimately brought my husband and I closer together! To go inward and find my peace with what we have been presented with was everything I needed that I never know I needed! To learn patience, the ability to let go of control, and to walk in complete faith of our creator. Every doctor’s appointment, every test, every win, every disappointment, every tear, every shot, every bruise, every pound gained, every one of these things were worth getting for that last phone call...”congratulations guys...you’re pregnant!!” . . . My thankful Thursday goes out to these 3 boys — my nephews. We live just 2 blocks from them and they are quite possibly the BEST role models & cousins for our kiddos!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My sister and I were always very close growing up, but never could I have imagined I'd be so lucky to live in her neighborhood — let alone be able to WALK to her house, OR for her youngest and my oldest to be able to be in the same grade!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ People often ask why we decided we wanted another child after we already had 3 — little did we know the plan for 4 would turn into 5, haha!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Well, I grew up with 3 siblings. I had 7 cousins on my mom's side of the family, none on my dad's side. We've always had incredible relationships with our extended family, too (second cousins, etc).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Family has always been EVERYTHING to us — holidays & birthdays are always loud and crazy, but they are beautiful! So, I always saw myself with a big family, at least 3 kiddos, maybe 4... And, obviously, God had plans for an even BIGGER family for us ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It's fun for my to always learn more about YOU — did you have lots of siblings or cousins around growing up? Pineapple socks on, waiting for the pee sticks to show our results... scared to death... after 16 years of constant disappointment that’s what these tests have become for me... nothing but disappointment. Hubby @psychocoonass woke up an hour ago waiting for me to get up and test... I needed sleep.... so finally when I did wake, I didn’t test, I went looking for him right away. Always, he (besides God) is my first priority. He stood in the kitchen making some coffee for me (he doesn’t drink the stuff.... and I only drink it on occasion) He started jumping up and down asking if I tested... nope... So we went together... After testing... while waiting for the results.... I sat on the toilet lid and waited... I, from that angle could only see the control line, and started to panic. He starts screaming there’s a line there’s a line... Yup a control... nope there’s a second! We’re pregnant! So there it is y’all! After 16 years, God constantly saying not yet my child... now he will show all is glory. Praise Be To God in the highest. @barbadosivf there is a huge thank you to our clinic! And in an instant..... (well, 26 hours of induced labour, forceps delivery, 4 litres of blood loss, 30 hours in ICU and suspected sepsis- but that’s not so catchy is it?!?).....the 3.5 years of trying to get pregnant, countless investigations, 3 rounds of IVF and a million tears all fade into the past. A week ago today our baby twin boys Luca and Kip were born.....and I feel like I’ve not slept since. PICKING MY DONOR⁣ ⁣ I’ve been asked a lot about how I decided on my donor and to be honest that was probably the hardest part of the whole process for me. I’m picky with the guys I date let alone choosing half of my child’s DNA.⁣ ⁣ To start with you are given a few pages of donors that list the following information:⁣ ⁣ Donor code, ethnic origin, blood group, nationality, build/height, skin tone, eye colour, hair colour, occupation and nationality. ⁣ ⁣ From there you decide what’s important to you. For me, I wanted a child to look as similar to me as possible. So I went for Caucasian and fair skin. Everything else was a bonus, blue eyes, blonde hair, tall.⁣ ⁣ The next step is to pick a donor code you like the sound of and ask for the extensive list. ⁣ ⁣ The extensive list then details everything about the donor. Why they decided to donate, parents physical characteristics and ancestry etc. It also provides a detailed medical history of the donor and his family. Any known conditions, history of illness, cancers and diseases etc⁣ ⁣ The donor I selected had no medical problems and I felt that I couldn’t ask for much more than that. You are not given photos of the donor at all (some places do).⁣ ⁣ Donors in Victoria aren’t paid, they must complete a police and child protection check and undertake counselling. I go back and forth between excited to be so close to seeing this sweet boy and wanting to keep him safe in my belly forever. The clock will forever go to fast from now on. I’ve watched my friends cry over their babies growing and always known it must be so hard! But, it’s even harder than I ever imagined. I want to enjoy every moment of this time. I’ll never be here again. The first kicks. The first ultrasounds. The first changes in my body. I’ll never do this for the first time ever again. It’s life changing in such an awesome way.
