Race no. 2 is complete which brings my total distance to 15k for the day with an added PR...in fun Since I hadnt ran much in the last 4-5 weeks I decided to treat these two races as training runs. I hardly looked at my Garmin, took it nice and easy, and just tried to soak in the scenery and on-course entertainment. It was such a nice change from being so caught up in my pace and finish time. Last week I hit up my favorite store @gazellesports and picked up a whole bunch of goodies from @saucony including brand new Saucony Freedom ISO 2’s - my fav shoes! It’s been a frustrating few months for me as I’ve been working through some crippling ITBS (runners knee). This morning I did a couple rainy miles at a comfortable pace. My main focus is strengthening my knee and form and getting fully back into training mode for my fall half. I get a ton of questions about my running history so I thought I’d answer a few. .

1. How did you get started?: I started out walking on a treadmill at 260 lbs. It took 6 months before I could jog 30 seconds without stopping and It took almost a year to work up to my first walk/run 5k. Just 2 months ago (5 years later) I finally ran my first 1/2 marathon.
2. What is your biggest tip?: Hands down, good shoes. I cannot stress enough the importance of getting properly fitted by a running pro/store like @gazellesports . Good shoes can be pricy but they’ll protect you from injury and keep you more comfortable.
3. What are your fav brands for gear?: -bra: @shefitapparel -shoes: @saucony Freedom ISO series
-leggings/shorts: I’m a Nike girl
-also love Buff gear and @goodr sunnies
4. Do you want to do a full marathon?: Hell yes. What can I say, it really is a disease ♀️ Maybe (big maybe) next spring.
5. What has helped you improve the most?: Consistency and strength training. Improving as a runner is about more than just trying to run faster and longer. It’s learning proper form, strengthening to avoid injury (hello stupid knee), and learning to listen to your body. The more I run, the faster I see improvements. You don’t have to put in a ton of miles, just be consistent.
6. I wish I were a runner but it’s so hard and I hate it.: Ok this isn’t really a question but I get this all the time. Look, nobody said it was easy. That’s part of what makes it so great. It challenges you. It makes you confront your BS. If you feel that calling then my advice is to start small and slow. If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you. There are no rules or qualifications here. If you run, you’re a runner.
My heart is heavy this morning. Prayers for those killed and injured in the deadly tornado in El Reno, OK last night (30 min from my home). Oklahoma is in a devastating state right now. 2/4 highways out of my small town are flooded and impassable. There is severe flooding all over Oklahoma. There are still storms and more rain in our forecast this week. I don’t know how much more we can take. This run was tough. Humidity is killing me. Longest run since the April marathon.

For a LOT of people, it IS about the weight. I’ve never wanted something more or worked harder for something that I did/do for my health. You can love yourself and still want to drastically change and improve your life. I don’t believe that to be a dangerous narrative.

My heart bleeds for the women that send me messages pouring their hearts out and begging for help. I’ve been where you are and I’ll do anything I can to help. I’m a regular normal girl that was dangerously unhealthy and overweight. I wanted desperately to change that and I did. This is MY story, MY truth.
