Recycle, clean up your beaches, don’t litter.. all rather simple steps that can help shape the future ⁣ ⁣ Have you ever realized how much plastic is out there?! ⁣ Share this with your friends! ❤️⁣ ⁣ #repost via @oceanboost

This poor shortfin mako shark seems to be crying in agony at the fishing rope deforming its body  New research has shown hundreds of sharks and rays share a similar fate. Utterly devastating.  : Daniel Cartamil

Meet possibly the least known vessel in Sea Shepherd history! #ThrowbackThursday – May 1987: with the Sea Shepherd II in Britain and in need of repairs, Captain Paul Watson needed a vessel to oppose escalating driftnet activities in the North Pacific. Sea Shepherd purchased a tuna seiner from a bank repossession sale called the Bold Venture. However upon further inspection, the vessel was deemed not suitable for the campaign; fortunately, within the month it was traded for a Japanese skipjack tuna vessel, called the Gratitude. The Gratitude was immediately renamed the Divine Wind and made ready for a voyage to the North Pacific. Through July & August: The Divine Wind set forth to the Aleutians, stopping in Amchitka and Attu, documenting ghost nets. On the return trip, the ship stopped in the Pribilof Islands to investigate the status of the Northern fur seals. The expedition discovered and removed many miles of drifting net material. Once lost or discarded, sections of fishing net and other fishing equipment can drift through the ocean or be left snagged on wrecks, rocks, and reefs indiscriminately killing marine wildlife for decades. How many of Sea Shepherd net retrieval campaigns do you know? Sea Shepherd #TBT #ghostnet #MarineDebris

hey, there little guy! @alexkyddphoto spotted this penguin in Australia & it gave us a big smile on this Monday morning. ⠀ ⠀ Something that doesn't make us smile:⠀ By 2050, nearly every species of seabird will be accidentally eating plastic debris — and that includes penguins. ⠀ ⠀ This can cause major problems. For example, if a bird swallows enough plastic, the indigestible scraps can build up in its gut and prevent it from digesting real food. ⠀ ⠀ So, our #MondayMotivation is to 'do it for the penguins' and stop #singleuse. Who's with us?! ⠀ ⠀ #FreetheOcean ⠀

#Repost @oceans247⠀ ---⠀ A killer whale giving a very close inspection! who’s jealous? What would your reaction be?⠀ ~⠀ Caption by @olly_scholey⠀ Video by @mullettover⠀ ~⠀ “This encounter is one of the luckiest I have ever had - seeing a killer whale in clear blue water in the open ocean is extremely rare. We didn’t really know how they were going to respond to us, and given they were transient / Biggs killer whales (the type that eat either large fish or marine mammals) we were a tad apprehensive about getting in the water with them..! After the pod had crashed past us at around 10-12kts, this youngster started to really interact with us - an experience I will never forget!! Turn the sound on to hear the beautiful vocalisations the orca was making ⠀ ⠀ This work was performed under the authorization no 15-ORAC-19 issued by the government on 07.06.19”⠀ •⠀ ---
