ROTATOR CUFF STRENGTHENING - Two badass exercises to fire up your rotator cuff, engage and test scapular strength, and move your shoulder through their full functional range - 1️⃣ Aply scratch movement with a bar. This can be done with a band if your would like as well. The important part is you press the bar away from your back forcing the rotator cuff to fire - Can’t do it? That’s alright, start without the bar and just actively bring one arm over head and one arm behind the back. Then switch in the opposite direction - 2️⃣ Cuban press: this should be done with a very light bar (or band). The goal is to control the weight slowly through a full range of motion - Remember, these exercises are meant for rehabbing and maximizing the health of your shoulders. They are meant to be challenging but NOT to create pain. - If your having shoulder pain regularly, GET IT CHECKED! IMPROVING UPPER BODY PULL STRENGTH . ✍️ This is a nice post on some ways to improve pull up strength. Often times I see many compensations/form break-down with this movement. . Two options for assisted pull-ups. First option using the box with the other leg to assist yourself throughout the motion. Progressions here could be simply minimizing the amount of pressure that is going through the box, which would increase the challenge of the pulling movement. The second option is using a band to assist with the movement. Progressions with this one is to use a lighter band, which would provide less assistance. . This is highly recommended for people who need good thoracic mobility in their sports, such as golf & tennis players. You also need this mobility in overhead training like snatches, press ups & handstands. • With the first one you gain more freedom for rotational movement. Reach forward with one arm while pulling back with the other. Keep your face forward as this mobilizes the often-stiff segments where your neck becomes the upper back. • In the second exercise the small weight helps with two things. The eccentric lowering will modify the tension in the anterior muscles of the body. The weight will also make the extension movement deeper. • With the third exercise the movement through the arms will help you guide extension to your upper back.
