Especially if you are an athlete or have a history of hamstring strains. —— While complete injury prevention is not a real thing, we can absolutely work on injury risk reduction! —- ✅The first 3 videos show variations of a Nordic Hamstring Curl. This exercise is fantastic for building eccentric strength, and has been shown in several studies to reduce the risk of hamstring injuries up to 51%. —— The Nordic hamstring curl is really tough and can be tricky to set up, but totally worth the effort! I’ve shown 3 variations going from easiest to hardest. [ ILIOPSOAS ] --- Let's talk about the hip flexors. What better way to work the hip flexors than end range lift offs. These can get filed in the category of "looks easy, but sucks to do" The exercise will look different depending on your ability to get into position. And don't worry if you can't get fully up right (re-reading this, can't stop saying that's what she said) You can lean back and still get an effective workout. Just keep trying to lean more upright as that will make the lift off more difficult. Remember : Try out some end range lift offs to really challenge the last few degrees of strength in your hip flexors. Knee Flexion End Range Mobility! (Swipe Left to see the exercises!...) . . . . ✅After a knee injury, or especially surgery, getting back FULL range of motion can be challenging. While knee extension is equally as important, this video is about getting those last degrees of knee bend. —— The focus of the first 3 drills is knee capsule mobility. Placing the towel at the crease of the knee, and performing some end range oscillations can help with any capsular stiffness. —- The third video shows another approach to improving knee capsule tightness and overall knee mobility. To make sure you are doing these correctly, try to move your foot and leg together. Also try to envision rotating the small bony “bump” on the top part of your tibia from left to right. —- The last one is just a great overall stretch to reinforce the knee flexion mobility you just worked on, and making it last. —— Find this helpful? Sound for coaching cues . Shoulder Controlled Articular Rotations . Again, these are essential! . Ball and socket joints like the shoulder and hip really need to be put through their full range of motion as often as possible using a circumduction type movement. . This is where Controlled Articular Rotations (CARs) really stand out as one of the best exercise you can do!! . Now of course all joints need to be put through the full range of motion as often as possible, but it’s extra important the shoulder and hip to use these circumduction type movements... . Basically you should be doing these movements as often as you’re brushing your teeth, so daily! . Some common points . 1️⃣ - Build tension through irradiation before you start. If the goal is to try to move just one joint in your body, contracting everything else will make this easier. . 2️⃣ - Go slow. I would normally do them slower, but with Instagram there is limited time to do the demonstration in. The more time you spend in each part of the rotation, the more awareness and information your building about that position. . 3️⃣ - Just start by trying to do the biggest possible circle that you can do without sacrificing form. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect to begin with, any movement of the joint is beneficial! . 4️⃣ - Make sure you don’t force into any pinching or pain. If you feel discomfort, back 10% away from that position, and simply avoid that particular part of the rotation. But it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t avoid this exercise completely. . So make sure you tag a mate with any shoulder, upper back, elbow, wrist or neck pain, and they really, really need this. Everyone else just really needs it!!! Glute bridges may seem basic and low level, especially to any seasoned athlete, but there is still a TON of value in these if done the right way and with the right intention! —— These progressions can be extremely helpful for you to improve your strength and awareness of the glutes, learn which bridges target hamstrings vs glutes more, and locate any strength deficits that may be impacting your overall performance. —— ✅These bridging variations are going to target several muscle groups including: ➡️Glute Max ➡️Glute Medius ➡️Hamstrings ➡️Trunk/core stabilizers —— The straight leg bridges are going to naturally hit hamstrings more, while the bent knee will target the glutes more.
