Chevalier Montrachet. My favorite White Burgundy vineyard. Back to the late 80s. 1989. A good year. Domaine Jean Chartron. From Jörg Müller’s cellar on Sylt, sentineled by Cerberus @herr_big_ben and his assistant hell hound @marcelribis. Evolved but no undue age. Energetic and super mineral. Red citrus and yellow peach indicate a warm vintage but intense chalky minerality gives the acids a lift and provides great freshness and aromatic complexity. A very good rather than great wine, recent renditions by @jeanmichelchartron are definitely a step up and he keeps improving. 2014 PYCM Saint Aubin La Pucelle St Aubin is in the Cote de Beaune located in a side valley to the west of Chassagne-Montrachet. Production in this AOC consists of ~75% white wine (mostly 100% Chardonnay). There are 20 premier crus and no Grand Cru vineyards within the Saint-Aubin AOC. This wine was so good! The 2014 PYCM La Pucelle is an amazing village wine. Probably one of the nicest village wines I have had. The 2014 vintage (along with 2015) were rated one of the highest in recent history for white Burgundy. 2014 isn't as concentrated as the 2015s, but this allows them to be consumed earlier. The 2014 white Burgundies, especially in the Côte de Beaune, are known for their acidity. This wine had a great balance of fruit, acidity, minerality, and moderate alcohol. In sum, a superbly balanced wine with well integrated flavors. Intense nose with white flower, pear, and citrus. Giving way to the palate of lemon, yellow apple, and white blossom. Lees contact showed beautifully in the form of light toast, and biscuit. Med + finish. This is a great example of how wine reflects its terroir and the growing environment of a specific year.
