The hardest thing you’ll do as a Catholic?
Live like one.
•
If anyone says being Catholic is easy, they’re either lying, or not living like one.
•
This faith is hard.
Forgive those who trespass against us? The ultimate “easier said than done.”
Turn the other cheek? How about tongue-in-cheek instead.
Dying to self? Dying to help myself most days.
Trust in God? Not a simple trust-fall exercise.
Fear not? Have you seen the world lately?
•
Being Catholic is challenging. It is way more than the sum of Masses, modest outfits and scripture inspired posts that often fill our feeds. It’s about sacrifice, selfless love, and handing over control.
This faith is hard. But it is so worth it.
Because the greatest thing you’ll do as a Catholic? Live like one.
“Eternity focused.”
That’s what I want to be.
Never settling for the cheap thrill or the next high.
But setting my heart, soul, mind and body on what’s to come.
Because we don’t belong in this world.
It’s not our forever home...
So I’m keeping my eyes on that forever home.
Forever peace.
Forever joy.
Forever mercy.
Forever goodness.
Forever redemption.
Forever.

Pictured is the “Milagro” that I gave Matt on our wedding day. Milagro means miracle, and you gift them in times of a prayer that has been answered or when a healing has happened. For me, my vocation to marriage was both. The heart was filled with important little treasures from our relationship and notes. But it meant even more to me- it was a gift of self, a long awaited prayer for my future spouse. As I think back to this last year, it fills me with awe that we have a new little one on her way. And a whole new Milagro. A little miracle and answered prayer. May this Milagro remind you of the miracles in your own life. Ones that come during difficulty, challenge, joy, peace. He longs to fill our hearts with treasures and care, and fulfill the longings on our hearts with miracles.

Reminiscing about the pilgrimage we took to the Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine in Lacrosse, Wisconsin last summer. My one big take-away from our trip is that Mary came to the people of Mexico when they were in desperate need of someone to comfort and strengthen them, in other words, when they needed a mother.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yesterday was a rough day for me and a phone call to my (earthly) mom was exactly what I needed. It is apparent that Mary is just as ready to listen. Mary is our heavenly mother, "for from her is born our holiness, our wisdom, our justice, our sanctification, our redemption (St. Aelred)." She, like our earthly moms, has the mother's touch. At the Annunciation, Mary shows us how to say "yes" to God's plan for our lives. In her visitation with Elizabeth, she shows us she is ready to assist us in our time of need. At the wedding of Cana, she teaches us that we can trust in God's faithfulness, that He will provide for what we need. And at the foot of the cross, Jesus gives us Mary do all of these things when He says, "Behold, your mother."
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let us be confident in Mary's intercession and remember to call upon her in our time of need!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mary, Mother of God, and our Mother, pray for us!
Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!
I’ve been sitting here trying to figure out what to write but words are escaping me. I have spent the last three weeks in some of the most beautiful villages in Flores Island, Indonesia with @focusmissions. There is still much to process and much I want to share but here is something I want to share today.
During my time in Indonesia prayer was dry and more often than not I had no desire to pray. It was sometimes frustrating but nevertheless the Lord desired to speak through it. And he did. Near the beginning of the trip while meditating on the Annunciation something kept popping out to me in prayer. “The Lord is with you.” These are the words the angel spoke to Mary. How freaking exciting must it have been for a young and lowly woman in the middle of a little town to have an angel come tell her that her Lord and God was with her!!! As I sat there and pondered on what Mary must have felt I began to hear the words spoken to me: Mariana, the Lord is with you. He is with you here in the middle of Indonesia as you sit barefoot in an empty chapel. He was there with me, a seemingly randomly young woman in a little town. And so these words stuck with me the whole trip and became my anthem.
I am clinging to these words now more than ever as I sit alone in a New York City apartment. The transition has hit my heart, spirit, and mind in ways I didn’t expect. My heart desires to be in our little community again in the middle of a little island with 12 perfect strangers and some of the craziest and holiest Brothers I’ve ever met but I know today I am meant to be here exactly where I am and He is with me.
The Lord is with you wherever you are in this stage of life. Ending a chapter, beginning a new one, or some crazy in between. Dearest brother or sister, the Lord is with you.

While on mission we heard a really beautiful reflection on the wedding at Cana at a giant statue of Our Lady. The wedding at Cana has played a major role in my life this year so this reflection sat deeper than usual. Everyday Our Lady is doing for us what she did at Cana. She notices our need like she noticed the need of the bride and groom. She takes those needs on behalf of us to her Son. She then tells us like she told the servants, and please don’t miss this like I have been for the last few months, she says “do what he tells you.” Today on the feast day of Transfiguration the Father speaks and says “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” He makes the same plea that our Mother asks of us. I have a habit of running around the rooms in my heart trying to talk Jesus’ ear off and I don’t give room for my heart to listen.
Christ speaks in the silence of our hearts and often speaks by saying nothing at all. Our Lord is not suggesting we listen to his son, he is commanding it. Remembering this, I can’t help but ask myself the question: how much listening am I actually doing in these days?

She’s (still) learning. IM SHE.
one of the most beautiful revelations that continues to unfold is that we never “fully arrive” on this side of Heaven. We never stop learning. We never stop growing. We never stop stretching.
my people-pleasing, perfectionist self is more aware than ever that the presence of perfection in my life would mean the absence of my need for a perfect Savior — therefore, I’m learning to rejoice in my imperfection because it simply means my absolute need for Jesus.
the more aware I am that I’m still learning, the more I extend grace towards the learning process of those around me.
the more aware I am that I’m still learning, the more I live with an open-handed willingness to be transformed more into His likeness each day.
the more aware I am that I’m still learning, the more thankful I can be for the mess that keeps me continually dependent on Him... that keeps me close to His heart.
The closer I am to His heart, the more I understand that His graciousness, patience, kindness, & love is no excuse to continue to do things my own way (though His love for me wouldn’t change), but rather it should stir my desire to be more & more like Him.
we don’t always get it right, we won’t always get it right & I’m learning that though our goal should always be to reflect His image, our failures & imperfections are weaved so perfectly into His design. & that’s REALLY incredible if you ask me. Happy Sunday.(thx Pinterest for the picture)
