Type 1 Thursday • • Decided that every Thursday I will post a short little video with something diabetes related. Today was day 10 of my old dexcom so time for a site change(thank God because the old sensor caused me so many problems‍♀️) • • This site hurt a little bit and there was quite a bit of bleeding but hey.....bleeders are readers right? I literally could cry today. I had my Endo appointment this morning (just my normal appointment every 4 weeks during pregnancy). We checked my A1C and it was 5.6!! WHHAAATTTTTT? I repeat ... It was 5.6!! . . Yes — it's been challenging. Yes — I get frustrated with myself. Yes — I get annoyed with my doctor. Yes — it is alot of work. . . After all of the fear the doctors put into us about having a baby ... HOLY CRAP! I am so proud and just happy! I would have NEVER guessed my A1C would be the best it's ever been — being pregnant. Heck. Over the moon with this result today. . In 7.5 years of #type1diabetes, we have never had a #hba1c over 7.5 (58). . Somehow, we have managed to keep between 6.2 and 7.5%, largely due to the fact that he was only 6.9 at diagnosis. . Today, Dexcom Clarity gave an estimated A1C of 7.6 and I was dreading clinic as this would have been our highest ever. . So imagine my surprise with 7.0 (53) . Very pleased, but, as always, there is room for improvement and we are going for 6.5 in 3 months time. . A week in Orlando at the @cwdiabetes Friends for Life conference has come and gone and we’re already counting down till next summer! We’ve been home three days and the cleaning fairies can’t seem to find the suitcases that need to be unpacked. . This photo was from my favorite evening, the 20th anniversary banquet and ball. Everyone tells me that I’m so brave. That they could never do what I do. That they couldn’t give themselves shots. That they couldn’t count all of the carbs they eat. But they only see the surface. They only see me trying to be strong. They only see me trying to be happy. They only see the “good” side of diabetes. They don’t see all the highs and lows. They don’t see all the tears I’ve cried. They don’t see themselves in the mirror covered in scars from sites and injections. They don’t feel shaky and emotional from a low. They don’t feel sick and tired from a high. They don’t feel burnt out and exhausted just from diabetes itself. They don’t know what diabetes really is. They don’t know that the hard stuff happens behind the scenes and that’s what they couldn’t do.
