"He was so handsome. I was thinking about how he would look running free in our shelter park when he got strong and healthy. . In 2017, our activists intercepted another dog meat truck and No Dogs Left Behind was called in for help. When we arrived at the impromptu shelter, the roof was leaking, the roads were wet and muddy after rain, and there were sick and dying dogs were all over the places. . Time was not our friend. Dogs were dying from infectious diseases. Everyday many dogs were sent to our hospital as the diseases were spreading so fast. We were running out of medication and supplies. . This was the first time and last time I met him. He was struggling to stand up in the corner. We helped him to stand up, provided him with immediate medical treatment, and rush him to hospital. “Humans tried to kill me, humans healed me”-Yulin Survivor Sting Sting was rescued on May 5, 2017 from a dog meat truck on the way to the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. When she was rescued, she had a severe case of distemper. Not surprisingly given how she had been tortured and abused, she showed aggression to humans which made it more difficult for the local volunteers to help her. When the No Dogs Left Behind team arrived at the site, we took in Sting and medically treated her, ignoring the risk of harm to the team. With time and life, we calmed and healed Sting, both physically and emotionally. Without No Dogs Left Behind, Sting would have died lonely and hopeless. Thanks to our team, and our emergency response protocols, Sting’s life and the lives of many other dogs were saved. Sting is now fully recovered at the No Dogs Left Behind Beijing shelter. It is a blessing to see her find the real meaning of being a dog, running free and playing with her doggy friends. The awful experience of being tortured by the dog meat traders makes Sting nervous with new people.
