❗ ❗ Tuna was in a dog meat truck on the way to the Yulin Dog Meat Festival  along with 1300 dogs. The truck was intercepted by brave Chinese activists and Tuna came to our shelter. He was infected with severe distemper and trauma wounds. We treated Tuna and watched over him. Many times we thought we had lost him. But Tuna had a tremendous will to survive! With the love and care provided by NDLB, Tuna is now fully recovered and running free in our park two times a day! Tuna is super friendly to humans and loves playing with other dogs. ❗On May 5th, 2017, brave Chinese activists intercepted a dog meat truck tightly packed with 660 dogs heading for the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. Many of the dogs were sick and dying. No Dogs Left Behind arrived on scene and quickly established protocol, setting up quarantine huts to stop the spread of infectious disease and providing veterinary care and vaccinations to every single dog. Kelly was one of the fortunate dogs saved on that day, saved from being meat. We learned right away that Kelly was pregnant but had lost her puppies in the truck. Even with all that Kelly went through, from being kidnapped by the dog meat traders while pregnant and stuffed into a small metal cage, and with all the death she had witnessed that day in May, she is a sweet and gentle dog, kind to humans and other dogs. ❗ ❗ . Louis was rescued from a dog meat truck on the way to the Yulin Dogs Meat Festival. He was servely wounded all over his body when we found him. The butchers had beat him so badly on his head and feet that he could barely walk. Many dogs on the same truck were badly beaten and many died, despite our best efforts to treat them.  Louis could not understand why humans did this to him but he had a strong will to live. No Dogs Left Behind medically treated him, evacuated him to safety, and rehabilitated him. A wonderful adopter came forward and soon Louis will be in a forever loving home in USA. . ❗ No Dogs Left Behind strongly believes in educating the youth in China; teaching love and respect for animals is the best way to bring an end to the brutal torturing and slaughtering of dogs. Our work with older students from the Animal Agricultural College of China is so important to the future of dogs in China. During their weekend visits to our shelter/sanctuary, the students learn basic medical procedures, such as how to vaccinate and treat illnesses.  Of equal importance, the students help us socialize the dogs, taking them on leash walks in our parks. We must reach the young as they are the future: busloads of students from 5th to 11th grades regularly visit our sanctuary to take part in our animal welfare program and learn to love, not fear, dogs. We’d like to thank the volunteers who visited this weekend! Because of YOU, our dogs enjoyed some extra love, pets and hugs, as well as dog walks and park playtime – all so important to a dog’s socialization, helping them get ready for their new forever homes!
