SALT PAINTED FLOWERS Read the full caption before you go thinking that I added medicine to the flowers . We’ve been into salt painting for a while now but when Kim from @bestideasforkids made a tutorial on snowflake salt painting a few months ago and it really stuck with me. Just stunning! I will add a swipe up to her blog post in my stories. Make sure to check her out (you might be on her blog for a while ). • This is AMAZING for mastering fine motor skills and hand control. It’s also really cute and a lot of fun☺️. Nicky was especially excited that it was flowers this time . • YOU’LL NEED: -Watercolor paper -Permanent marker -Glue -Table salt -Water colors (I mixes a few drops of food coloring with a little water) -Syringe INSTRUCTIONS: 1️⃣Using a permanent marker draw a few flowers on the watercolor paper. 2️⃣Outline the flowers using the glue. 3️⃣Add salt on top. For better results, add a lot of salt. 4️⃣Use the syringe to drop a little bit of watercolors at a time. CAN YOU FOLLOW THE POM POM PATTERNS FOR EACH CUP? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We did some Math practice today using these clear cups and some pom pom pattern cards that I made last Fall. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I did some very rudimentary drawings of cups filled with different combinations of coloured pom poms, and asked the girls to match the suggested pattern in each empty cup. Boom! Patterning is such a simple and important math activity! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This was a great challenge, and was actually achievable for both Miss 2 and Miss 5! Activities that are tricky enough to challenge the eldest while not being too tricky for the youngest trade like gold around these parts. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If y'all have paper, markers, scissors, cups of any kind, and some colourful poms on hand, you can set this activity up SUPER easily. SIMPLE SPRINKLE SENSORY BAG . . Yesterdsy as I was fixing up storage in the kitchen, I added sprinkles to a ziplock bag. To my surprise, I found myself curious as to using it as a sensory bag! . . No kidding, my curiosity got the best of me and I found myself writing doodles with a craft stick! Total calm and de stressed mama over here! It was great!! . . My girls came out of the bath and loved what they saw! We pulled out flashcards and practiced learning our shapes, numbers and letters! Doodling was also included . Thanks to my friend Myriam @mothercould aka bag lady for the inspiration of any bag I ever come up with! If you're not following her yet, do so now! You can thank me later . What you'll need to make the sprinkle sensory bag: zip lock bag (double it up if you want extra security sprinkles (we used real ones) tape (we buy ours from the $ store) craft stick (for writing) . . ✨DISCOVERY BAG A few weeks ago I shared a sensory bag that got us through those horrendous tummy time days and today I’m sharing the other. Not even the brightest toys would keep my girls attention long enough to get through a few minutes of tummy time like these bags. These are still loved by both my girls, 18 months and 4 years old. Watch till the end to see Nicky catch a hidden heart. • ♻️I keep these bags intact for a long time. Some of my bags are from when Nicky was a baby. Try to use strong bags to avoid tares or reusable bags are great for this . RAINBOW SORT You know how much I love a good sensory bag (no mess, easy to make, blah blah blah ). Now combine a rainbow + sensory bag and you can picture me jumping with excitement‍♀️. Plus, it’s been a little while since this bag lady came out to play . I was tempted to leave the audio in this video because towards the end, these where Nickys statements: “I’m going to win for sure”, “I can do anything” and “I won this whole thing”! So apart from the fine motor skill practice and color sorting, this activity boost self esteem . • YOU’LL NEED: -Gallon size, freezer grade, plastic bag. Reusable bags are great for this. -Paper -Markers -Baby oil -Pom poms -Tape INSTRUCTIONS: 1️⃣Draw a rainbow on a piece of paper leaving some white space either above or below. I chose to do rainbow colors in a linear pattern but the traditional arch will work as well. 2️⃣Cut the paper to the size of the bag. SHAPE & COLOUR MATCH | Incorporating gross motor into our activities never fail to get Claire really excited! This was definitely one of those low prep but maximum engagement activities! We played this activity twice, each lasting around 10mins because she spent a long time deliberating which shape/colour she wanted to choose next! ‍♀️ . To prep this activity, I cut out 4 shapes from 5 different coloured paper (to save time, stack the coloured paper together each time you cut one shape) and stuck corresponding shapes/colours on plastic cups. Claire’s task was to match the cup to its corresponding coloured shape! This was great in helping with visual discrimination of two properties - colour and shape. Claire was involved from start to end as I got her to help me prep for this activity, sticking the shapes onto the cups (if she could cut well with the scissors, I would have let her cut the shapes herself too )! This is my new favorite play hack! I got the idea from @prettyplaypoppy who did an Easter egg version (who got the idea from @playtime.messy.madness!) and it couldn’t be easier- just hot glue designs on a toilet paper roll to make a patterned rolling pin for playdough! I made a mermaid scale pattern for this one, but I’m also thinking we can get some dragon play out of it too. To go with the imprint roll, I gave her three marbled playdough colors (i.e. I didn’t mix the color all the way ), some sea shells, evergreen twigs that I thought could pass as seaweed, and some metallic golden painted curly pasta from an old sensory bin that we used as magical undersea space worms. I was thinking about giving her sand to mix in, but decided my coffee was not strong enough for that impending mess. First Activity: COLOR MATCH Cups (we used foam) Dot Stickers (I have a link to the ones we use in my profile under 'Amazon Store' . How to play the game: Add different colored dot stickers to each cup. Your child will match the correct color dot sticker to the correct dot stickerd cup by placing the cup over the correct one. . . Second Activity: SKIP COLORS + MATCH cups washi tape dot stickers . How to play: Follow the strategy already laid out and skip color shout . . Third Activity: COLOR MATCH THE GRID Cups washi tape dot stickers . How to play: Color match and count the cups using the 10 frame grid. So many play ideas you can come up with, so so fun . . Fourth Activity: SKIP COUNT+COUNT BY TEN Cups dot stickers washi tape . How to play: For my kindergartener she skip counted; for my preschooler she counted! . . That's all!
