Yesterday we finished #memademay2019! Woohoo! It's been a pretty stressful time for me so I'm kind of impressed I kept up this year, only skipping a few photos. These are my last 3 outfits of the month. 〰️ Day 29 | @cashmerette #appletondress in double brushed poly 〰️ Day 30 | @closetcase.patterns #kalleshirt in cotton lawn 〰️ Day 31 | #kalleshirtdress in ikat linen 〰️ My takeaways from this year are that I generally feel pretty good about the state of my wardrobe; I recently culled a lot of stuff that doesn't fit anymore or doesn't feel like my style, so I have less in my closet but it's all stuff I like to wear. I stopped making jeans a while ago because I found a RTW brand that fits me really well, so I would say that's a major gap in my handmade wardrobe. Maybe I'll make some again soon. The other major thing lacking in my wardrobe is knits, simply because I don't enjoy sewing them as much as I do wovens! But I do enjoy wearing them, so I think I'm going to make a point to sew more knits in the coming year. Nearly there with the @paulinealice_patterns Cami dress. I used some lovely viscose from @dittofabrics Just hemming to be done and if not too tired after work I’ll try do it tonight instead of collapsing on the sofa as I usually do I had a few technical issues with buttonholes that took ages to sort out, which I put down to the fact that my machine didn’t like the fabric. I try to resolve by putting medium interfacing underneath on the inside of the placket to stabilise the fabric, in addition to the usual interfacing on the placket pieces. That seem to do the trick and so I did all the buttonholes this way....ONLY to find out that the two plasticky thingy ( technical term) underneath the blummin buttonholes foot came undone and were lying at the bottom of my accessories box! . . After the the buttonholes came the invisible zip! I tell you I was shocked to find out I had to insert one of these, I haven’t done one in ages but after a few head scratching moment and unpicking the baste stitching to make sure the waste seam matched, it was finally in!! ! . . This was my outfit for my boys big day! I made an #orchidxparasol by @ensemble.patterns and @chalkandnotch . Tiny adjustment: I made the legs in one piece to not chop up the print of the fabric. . Happy release day to @patternscout and congrats on your first garment pattern! I tested the brand new #psferntop a couple weeks ago and have some thoughts to share. Here is what I like about this top. It’s a fitted style top with no closures that is easily popped on over the head (and popped off easily too without having to dislocate a shoulder). The seam lines add an opportunity for color blocking or detail stitching, which can dress up the design of you like. It also works great for fluid or more structured fabrics! I used a lightweight lyocell denim from @joann_stores for mine, and am quite pleased with the way it moves. The only pattern adjustment I did besides grading between sizes was a full bicep adjustment, which is standard practice for me. This ended up with a slightly longer bodice, which I compensated for by shortening the skirt a lil bit. Overall a fun and easy top to make.
