What do you get when you use a fabric that makes your heart sing with your favourite dress pattern? You get a dress you know you're gonna love wearing ❤️ I bought this fabric on our trip to Amsterdam a few weeks ago, and when I saw it it truly made my heart go pitter-patter. It was a lot more than I'd normally spend on fabric, so I only bought 2m. I actually lay awake in bed on our trip trying to think of how I could use this very special fabric. In my head I had a #bhlzeena in mind but I just couldn't imagine fitting it in 2 m. When I got home and got working on it, I spent 2 hours stubbornly trying to get the pattern to fit - in the end, it meant having to have the rectangles going in different directions, but I didn't care. To me this dress reminds me of a water colour palette, but I've also heard pantone cards either way, I've been trying really hard to be bolder with my fabric choices and I'd say this is a pretty good start . . . . I’m visiting my company’s headquarters in SF this week and packed THREE of my @closetcase.patterns #salliejumpsuit . This is my latest in full glory! I added 1” of length to the bodice pieces because my torso is a little longer, and graded the waist down to a 4 (previous versions of that were a 6 waist) to adjust for my lower back. I kept the hips at their original size (10 or 12, can’t remember!) as well as my extra roomy pocket mod #pocketsareafeministissue . I feel like I’ve nailed the fit on this and will definitely be making more after I finish working through my fabric stash and buy some more knits ! #ad One of the things I have been enjoying a lot this year is that I have stopped planning my projects. I basically threw out all my plans and now all I want to do is play around with the pretty and large stash of fabric I have and have fun with it. That’s what motivated me to apply for the #soipatterninsiders: an element of the unexpected and unplanned. Here’s how it works: when there’s a new pdf pattern I can opt in, receive the pattern and make the garment in advance. This was the second month and after the Meredith wrapdress @sewoveritlondon offered us this shirtdress to make. And I have been experimenting with shirtdress patterns for a while now, so I wanted to try this one. It’s called the #soikittydress and it has two bodice options, two skirt options and two collar options. You can make it with or without sleeves. I opted for the princess seams bodice (because easy to adjust if needed), notched collar and panelled skirt. I made a straight size 16 and no alterations at first. I then took it in a bit around the armscye. It’s worth it to make a toile. I finally managed to get a clean waistband installed! I used this cotton Wybe got me for christmas. It has both a bit of drape and a bit of body which works well with both holding the shape of the collar and giving the skirt a bit of swish. Two new makes out in the wild tonight! We had an afternoon thunderstorm which cooled things off, so we took advantage and stayed out past bedtime to get ice cream and watch the sunset on the river. (see my stories) . I'm wearing shorts I made using the #pantsno1 pattern from @100actsofsewing. I added several inches to the front and back rise (because I love high-waisted shorts that I don't have to keep pulling up) and made the waistband wider. I kind of messed up the cropping, because I should've added more length at the back inseam, but I just shortened at the side seams until I could get the hem even and it turned out okay. The fabric is a stretch linen/rayon blend from @joann_stores and it's so comfortable! . The top is the @seamworkmag #seamworkgretta in a super lightweight cotton I found at Walmart. I made a size 24 based on my measurements but really should have paid more attention to the finished garment dimensions because it was comically loose on me. I ended up taking in nearly 1.5" at each side seam and an extra 1" off each shoulder seam to raise it up. I'm really happy with how it came out--it's the perfect loose, woven tank with a bit of added interest from the shoulder ties. I will definitely make it again but will probably size down.
