ART, CRAFT & MARK MAKING AREA . We’re just back from a lovely holiday in Cornwall and in the usual unpacking chaos! I’m thankful for this corner of our playroom most days but especially on a day like today! . I set this up a year or so ago and it’s without a doubt where the girls spend most of their time. . I’ve tried to set it up so that they can be as self-sufficient as possible, though a few things they have to ask for. I’m not yet brave enough to give them free rein over the paints . All their craft bits are kept in an Ikea drawer unit and I’ve used cardboard to divide the sections up to keep everything organised. . A little tip if you’re thinking of doing something similar is to give them a very little of each craft resource at a time. That way I find they’re a bit more considered about how they use things! . Above this area are cupboards where I store all the art and craft materials and I just top up things in their craft drawers as and when they need it. . If you’d like to know the resources I make available to them head over to my stories and I’ve listed them there. . If you don’t have space for a dedicated art area another idea could be to set up a caddy with art and craft resources in that can be taken to a table as and when they want it. When I was teaching we had a similar set up that they could take outside to do mark making and art. . @learningresources do one which has handy little compartments you can remove. Our activity from the other day. Such a simple but effective one if you've got some masking tape laying around! This kept Elijah occupied for ages The great thing about it is you can leave it there for however long and they can come back to it and do it over and over again, as often as they like! I plan on doing numbers next time!

Small world setups We love setting up little towns and normally it’s something I do with the kids but occasionally I’ll set one up for them while they nap (although the napping is getting less regular now ) They always end up as a big mess of course - Gerard’s first instinct with this one was to try and crawl under the wobbel - but they’re lots of fun and can last days before we finally pack them up! Whilst the big girls have been at school and pre-school the littlest Miss and I have spent the day getting summer holiday ready . We’ve rotated the toy shelves, re-stocked the art supplies and sorted the outdoor toy shed ready for lots of garden play this holiday ☀️ . I’ve had a few messages recently asking about our set up at home so I thought I’d share some of our play spaces over the next few weeks. They’re definitely not insta-perfect (and rarely this tidy!) but I hope they might provide a little inspiration . This area was originally designed to be a work station until we realised it was far too bright in the room to see a computer screen ‍♀️. . It’s now been incorporated into the play space and the girls use it for art and craft and any play they don’t want Miss 15m to get her hands on! . When they’re a bit older we’ll use it for homework too but for now this is a most loved corner of our play area. A little playroom reshuffle this afternoon. I’ve always loved rearranging the furniture in the playroom just as much as I do the toys. Still haven't got around to ordering the last two labels that I need! So just pretend there are labels there, ok I get asked sometimes what system is better for storing toys; the trofast unit (shown) or the kallax (cube shelves) with the fabric inserts. I definitely think the kallax is better for storing the bulk of your toys that are not in rotation as the drawers fit way more! The trofast is a little restrictive in size but it's still super handy - I use mine for the little bits and bobs that I don't want getting lost in the big fabric inserts of the kallax unit! The two drawers that aren't labled hold his @babynoise_ instruments and the other is for playdoh. There will be labels on them one day
