Evening games of Onitama by @arcanewonders ‍♂️ A very quick simple abstract game of perfect information. Aim of the game is to take your opponents Master or get your Master into their base. What I really enjoy about this one is that in any one game there will only be 5 possible moves. These cards can be seen by all players, this adds a fantastic tactical layer as you share these moves with your opponent. It’s all about when you play certain cards to make certain moves, attempting to trap your opponent into giving you the cards you need. Really good back and forth and it’s speed makes it very replayable. One of my favourite abstracts

I was really looking forward to try this new game series in which you step into the roles of destiny weavers who travel back in time to key moments in the life of a recently deceased person to try and change this person’s fate to the better. Sounded a little bit like the designers were aiming for a „T.I.M.E Stories“-experience, but in a shorter period of time. When I opened the box, read the rules and realized that the players don’t actually change the course of history during their time travels and won’t be able to actually cause a different outcome of this person’s fate, but instead just travel back to specific moments in the life of the Deceased to discuss which of the three set choices they would select to positively influence this person’s life if they had the power to do so, I was a little skeptical if this could really lead to an interesting and satisfying gaming experience. We dived in anyway and what can I say, we played for almost two hours and had a very immersive experience. But for this game it’s very important to notice that this potentially great experience only comes to life through your own imagination and lively discussions, not through the actual gameplay. The game gives you a couple of cards that describe key moments in the life of the Deceased. That’s it. You have to bring this person’s story to life yourself. Great Western Trail and the way to the north. Great game, great roundel, a lot of great choices but can be hard to play as a noob with experience players.

Yesterday we played our first game of Dungeon Alliance by #quixoticgames, a fun game in which each player controls a group of four explorers who delve into the dark chambers of an unexplored dungeon that is filled with monsters of myth and fantasy. Setting up and playing the game for the first time with four players took us nearly 6 hours. This game can be quite a brainburner at times, because it's more of a puzzle than a dungeon crawl, which is what some might be mistakenly taking it for. That being said, I really like how well and effortlessly it blends deck-building with euro style optimalisation. There is a long learning curve for sure to master the gameplay and not get your team to end up as cannon fodder for the monsters. On the other side, the base game alone features a huge replayability with a lot of different alliance and dungeon layout posibilities, quests, scenarios and a campaign, not to mention the expansion and adventure packs. What I liked most about it is the seamless combination of mechanics and theme. All boils down to managing your team and choosing the right time to do your battles, grab XP to get better cards and explore the dungeon before your opponents get all the loot. At the same time, the game mesmerizes you with great visuals. The art evokes memories of the fantasy games I knew in the olden days. The biggest cons for folks will probably be the down-time between players' turns (although I personally took my time between the turns of my co-players to plan my next moves). The rules are a bit cumbersome and split between two rule booklets which, to be honest, could have been editted better and fitted into one booklet. Is this a game for everybody? Certainly no, but after our first play I really enjoyed #DungeonAlliance and really look forward to playing it more as I get to know the rules better, try new scenarios, play with quests and all of the additional adventure packs.
