ABSORBING RAINBOW No shocker here, another pretty rainbow (insert emoji with rainbow eyes). We have never really participated in anything St. Patricks Day but apparently rainbows are a big part of it (can anyone tell me why? Thank you Michelle . • YOU’LL NEED: -Paper -Glue stick -Cotton balls -Water -Food coloring -Pipette INSTRUCTIONS: 1️⃣Make a rainbow outline on the paper using the glue stick. 2️⃣Add the cotton balls in the shape of a rainbow. 3️⃣Mix a drop of food coloring with a bit of water. EDIBLE SAND I have good news for you . You don’t need to go to the beach to make sand castles‼️ While trying to make cloud dough actually edible (flour is considered raw unless it is cooked), I made up this recipe and its my new obsession. I wasn’t really sure about it at first but the texture is identical to beach sand that is a little damp. Colors come out super vibrant and you don’t have to be paranoid about your little ones eating it since this recipe has a baking component to the flour. • YOU’LL NEED: -2 Cups flour -1/4 cup water -Food coloring -3oz vegetable oil INSTRUCTIONS: ♨️Preheat oven to 300°F. 1️⃣Pour the flour into an oven safe pan. 2️⃣Mix a few drops of food coloring into the water and add to the flour. Mix really well using your hands. Thrust the flour together in between your hands like in the video. You want to have very few clumps. 3️⃣Bake in the oven at 300°F in 10 minute intervals. Remove from the oven every 10 minutes and thrust with your hands. Repeat until dry. 4️⃣Once cool, add vegetable oil. Thrust well with your hands to remove the clumps. Add more or less oil depending on whether it clumps together or not. 5️⃣Place the cloud dough in a large bin and add in some beach toys to make sand castles #mothercould #howto • Take the activity outside to give it the full experience of being at the beach and also makes clean up a breeze . I’ve got four kiddos. 8 6.5 5 3 When we were ‘resetting’ (aka cleaning up) this space and bedrooms after a huge home day today (hello school holidays!), my 8 year old announced something that took my breath away: “Mum, I don’t know *why* I have to clean this - I‘ve hardly played in here these holidays!” And you know what? He was right. The other three live in this room when inside, but him? Not so much, unless he’s doing his homework. It seems like two seconds ago he was playing with his Thomas Trains, shouting ‘neee-nawwww’ at every opportunity and building Police Helicopter Stations with Duplo or block towers, but slowly and surely, these games have been totally replaced his (beloved) footy games or other ball games outside, playing Monopoly or reading Novels. I haven’t regularly shared many of our behind the scenes adventures on here (at all!) the last few months - we’ve been too busy living them! - but today reminded me how quickly these early childhood years are slipping by for my family. Three years ago I had four under five - and now my 3rd is 5! #SlowDownTimePlease⏰ Just a reminder for anyone who is in a season with young children - it’s true what they say: the days feel long but the years truly do fly past. Recently on our Facebook page I shared this video of my 15 month old doing this quick pom pom whisk activity and it took off so sharing here as well! Many liked the easy set up and fine motor/sensory appeal of this baby activity.. . A few notes: 1) always supervise baby when doing activities like these 2) some mentioned concern about the size of Pom Poms. Watch the video to the end where we show you can also use cut up sponges, baby socks, straws, pipe cleaners, small blocks. 3) Dash does put things in his mouth but he loves putting objects in and out of containers so it was interesting to see him work on transferring from the start here. Setting up a small bowl helps! Had he been more interested in eating the Pom Poms we would have stopped immediately. You know your baby best! 4) the type of whisk matters!
