I have a little more energy today, my body still feels pretty weak but that’s due to stress and dehydration. My intestines feel bruised but aren’t cramping like they were yesterday so that’s a huge plus. I see my doctor on Monday to discuss how the Humira is working which, I don’t think it is considering the problems I’m still having. #crohnsdisease #crohnie #indeterminatecolitis #ulcerativecolitis #spoonie #crohnsflare #redhead #redhair #naturalredhead #gingerpride #catlady #catlover #girlswithpiercings #girlswithtattoos #girlswithstretchedears #girlswithgauges

I am getting my colon removed! ---------------------------------------------- I did a colonoscopy yesterday and they saw that my whole colon is inflamed even though being on high doses of pred, therefore I'm taking it away and getting an ileostomy! The operation will probably be done on tuesday. I really just want to get it over with, super tired of being in the hospital right now. However it feels good because I will probably feel so much better after the operation and I'm tired of being sick. So for me this is really worth it! Just hoping everything goes well ✨

Before the surgery I was worried that I would feel less beautiful with an ostomy. Gross. Weird. I'm happy to say this is not the case, at all! Why would something that has literally given me my life back, change anything but good? My ostomy doesn't define me in any way. I'm happy to say that I feel really confident in my body today, however I don't know how I would react if someone commented something negative. I hope and I know that I shouldn't be affected. Has anyone of you guys received negative comments because of your ostomy, and how did you handle it?

5 days post op! Killing it with my ostomy haha I'm feeling really happy today, the recovery is going well. The pain from the surgery is getting better for each day, and handling everything with the stoma has so far gone well! Feels like a whole new chapter in my life. Now I can start to live a life where my body isn't always fighting against me, now it actually feels like I have the control over my body for the first time in very very long ✨

My sister sent me this picture and it reminded me of how far I have come.

Ive had a interesting week so far . Sunday - decided to try a bag with a flat base plate for the first time in over a year (I wear soft convex) wasn't feeling great so took a nap and when i woke up I was cover in poop. . Monday - had the worse crohns cramps I had in a long time, so I left work early. When I got changed out of my uniform I noticed that poop was leaking through the filter (is this a common thing?!) . Tuesday I wasn't feeling great and feeling dehydrated so went to me GP who sent me to hospital for dehydration caused by crohns flare and / or kidney infection. Thankfully I was aloud home with oral antibiotics after a couple of bags of IV fluid and IV antibiotics.

Hospital Update: Was finally admitted late yesterday afternoon. I must say, having been on precautions for C Diff testing (which I do not have) and having to get a private room is pretty darn nice. (A rarity here at Mass General) • I couldn’t ask for nicer nurses and a great team of docs who have been in and out of my room checking on me since I got to the floor. The plan moving forward will be to continue on IV steroids (60mg) for a couple of more days to try and knock down inflammation. My scan showed the same amount of inflammation since last week, so I’m guessing my body needed to be on a higher dose of prednisone longer than just a week • So far, my moon face hasn’t quite arrived, but I know that it will. Documenting this selfie to track my puffiness • I also saw a pain management team for the first time since my diagnosis. Wild, right! I have never been prescribed any type of pain meds for Crohn’s pain besides when I’ve had surgeries. Who knew there were so many options out there that do not involve narcotics. This whole time I’ve been counting on Tylenol to get me through. Hoping this new gabapentin cocktail can keep me afloat while I get through this flare • What are some types of non-narcotic drugs you have used in the past for Crohn’s flares/chronic pain not involving surgery? #chronicpain #ostomyinspo #ostomy #crohnsdisease #colitis #flareup #crohnsflare #ibd #irritalbowelsyndrome

Smiling for this picture, but quite a mess on the inside. I am mentally and physically wiped. Today marks my fourth hospital admission in two months. 5 CT scans, 3 MRIs, 1 ileoscopy, 1 CT aspiration of an abscess, 3 courses of prednisone, 1 course of antibiotics, and too many needles to count. Yesterday, I woke up to a swollen abdomen- tons of pain and a newly formed fistula. Cute, right? • Back to the ER I go to find out that I will be having another surgery on Tuesday. Today’s CT scan shows my inflammation has not gone down at all, and newly formed abscesses/fistulas give way to an inevitable small Bowel resection. While the news of surgery itself did not come as a shock to me (it’s pretty clear a third dose of prednisone, even combined with antibiotics and prograph aren’t exactly working any magic) the next part has me totally freaked and stressed • I was told today that because of so much scarring and adhesions caused by the amount of active Crohn’s disease in my small intestine and previous surgeries, my stoma might have to move to the other side of my stomach. Ugh! Is that even a thing?! Feeling pretty upset, mostly for some vein and cosmetic reasons (but hey, I think I’ve gone through enough to deserve to feel that way)- the skin underneath my current ostomy is so not pretty- if my stoma moves to the left side, this skin will be exposed. My surgeon said there is a chance he can resection my small intestine and keep the stoma where it is, but doesn’t seem likely • Has anyone had similar issues where they had to switch a stoma from one side to the other? And what about plastic surgery down the road? • • • #crohns #ostomy #flareup #crohnsflare #ilestomy #ostomyawareness
