Without insurance, a month's supply of insulin costs about $1,000 in the US, an insane price to pay for a medication that roughly 7 million Americans rely on to survive. Pharmaceutical companies are totally capable of lowering insulin prices to ensure that it’s accessible, they just choose not to. This is an issue of greed, and these deaths could have been prevented if Big Pharma hadn’t decided that their wallets were (and still are) more important. Stomach injections. I hate them. I hate the little bruises they leave behind. I hate the pinching sensation that comes along with every injection. However it’s ironically also the location where I have noticeably better absorption. Every stomach injection takes a little mental pep talk followed up by a countdown, a few deep breaths and then typically a brief moment of hesitation. Sometimes that “brief moment of hesitation” is a fraction of a second sometimes 5 seconds sometimes 10.. where the needle just touches my skin and sits there. Sometimes I chicken out and go back to injection sites that feel more comfortable and scratch the whole plan all together until the next time I need insulin and the process starts all over again.

YES! @berniesanders is travelling to Canada later this month with @quinnnystrom, @t1dchick and others living with Type 1 Diabetes to buy insulin. Why? Because the price of insulin in Canada compared to the US is BY FAR cheaper- without insurance or a prescription it is a tenth of the price! Thanks Bernie Sanders, Quinn, Jillian and all the Type 1’s travelling to Canada to bring awareness to this issue, and hopefully change! #insulin4all As a Canadian this experience has opened my eyes to everything I’ve been taking for granted... • My hope is that the media understands how serious this is. I hope that yesterday’s events will bring attention to what’s going on & more people will start asking questions and advocating. What factors/institutions have lead to this crisis?
