Wow, okay, Scott is getting his own post. This gent ran up to me grabbed my armed & yelled “hell yeah” then showed me his G5! We chatted for a little & when I asked him how long he had been diagnosed, he took a second to do the math cause not many people ask him that. It was 37 years. He has been on @dexcom for 5. Loved meeting a T1D in the wild & then the gents around me started asking about the tech too. Love sharing with T1’s & others alike! We then ran into Scott again on day 2 & chatted some more! Knowledge is power. But trial and error is also power and basically a necessity IMO. I tried Fiasp for the first time yesterday while I ate a slice of vegan banana bread. It didn’t go so well. I ate basically right after I injected (per my endos suggestion) and ended up spiking to 240 and just sitting there for a few hours regardless of my 3 corrections. I obviously then crashed and then had one of those stubborn lows where it just won’t budge. • • For those of you who don’t know, Fiasp is a type of fast acting insulin that is supposed to start working quicker than other fast acting insulins such as humalog and novolog therefor needing less of a pre bolus. • • I asked Fiasp users how much of a pre bolus they typically do with Fiasp and I got everything from 15 minutes AFTER they eat to 30 min BEFORE they eat. Which is a huge difference. It was a small reminder to myself how even tho we all have the same chronic Illness, our bodies truly are different and one size (or one way of managing our diabetes) doesn’t fits all. Take what you learn with a grain of salt. Read the books and listen to the podcasts, but don’t be afraid to try something different if it’s not working for you ✌ • • This book is ALWAYS on my recommendation list! I’ve read it 2 times now and every once in a while I pull it out to skim over things.

Sneaking food as a Type One Diabetic... We need some help you guys, we have been noticing more and more that Nevaeh has been sneaking food at school. I know in my heart that she just wants to eat food and be normal. I get that so much and when we ask her she does tell us(for the most part). Well she’s been going crazy high lately in the morning even with a no carb breakfast. So I told Eth we needed to adjust her basal rate(thankfully he didn’t) so she wouldn’t sky rocket... and then today she was perfect and even on the low side. So we asked her if she was sneaking again and I looked in her backpack and almost all her candy we have in there just in case she is low was practically gone The thing is I get nervous that we bump up her basal and she doesn’t sneak food and then she goes crazy low and even could pass out or die. Sadly this is a serious situation. If you are #t1d or a #t1dmom how do you confront this situation and let them know it’s serious without them feeling guilty for eating food. But after talking with him about his twin daughters‍♀️, we couldn’t help but to share/explain the noticeable tech on our arms that keep us alive! Growing up, I think I spent as much time at school in the nurse’s office as the nurse. I never understood why I always felt so bad and got sick all the time. Then, when I was 17, I was diagnosed with type one diabetes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The diagnosis wasn’t the difficult part. It’s been everything after that. Like I’m still always prone to getting sick. I have all these weird allergies, and weird health things always happen to me that normally happen to old people. My blood sugar is never where it should be. It’s either high, which makes me feel tired, or low, which makes me feel like I’m dying. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And for a long time, I didn’t like to take shots in public, or even tell people I’m diabetic. I wouldn’t even consider getting an insulin pump, because I didn’t want people to know just by looking at me. I wanted to be normal. So bad. As time has gone by, I’ve become more and more comfortable with it, and recently I decided to get an insulin pump, and I don’t want to hide it. Why should I be hiding something that’s actually keeping me alive? It’s been almost ten years now, and the diabetes hasn’t gotten easier, but I think it’s actually made me stronger, because I’ve realized this is who I am and this is my normal.
