This is my new favorite play hack! I got the idea from @prettyplaypoppy who did an Easter egg version (who got the idea from @playtime.messy.madness!) and it couldn’t be easier- just hot glue designs on a toilet paper roll to make a patterned rolling pin for playdough! I made a mermaid scale pattern for this one, but I’m also thinking we can get some dragon play out of it too. To go with the imprint roll, I gave her three marbled playdough colors (i.e. I didn’t mix the color all the way ), some sea shells, evergreen twigs that I thought could pass as seaweed, and some metallic golden painted curly pasta from an old sensory bin that we used as magical undersea space worms. I was thinking about giving her sand to mix in, but decided my coffee was not strong enough for that impending mess. With Harpers 3rd birthday right around the corner we decided to start the celebration a little early by building a cake. A gorgeous, wood, unicorn cake. Now if only it actually tasted as wonderful as it looked. After this one was demolished, Mason, proceeded to build a black panther cake and decorated each layer with a beautiful pattern. These open-ended toys never get old. There’s always new ways to use them, things to build/create, and learning opportunities to be had. Genius idea came from @steph.soj
