Here's the #sapporocoat I made at #stitchroomsewcial last weekend. It's in a gorgeous giant herringbone wool given to me by @ohsewthatmercedes, with a flashy silver lining. I do love a lining. I also love this coat, I'll definitely make it again. It felt a bit daft to be making a coat in June but hey, I've worn it on the evening dog walk. Isn't that ridiculous. My only mods were: lining in the sleeves instead of wool; hair canvas in the lapel machine stitched onto the facing (it has a really lovely structure at the collar, it's keeping the shape really nicely) ; added width and length to the lining for ease. When I sew it again I'll make the pockets bigger. Hoping to run a weekend workshop to make a sapporo with @sewing_nutt in Dunfermline @thesewstudiofife in the autumn. . Pocket Hong Kong Seam Tutorial . You all know how much I love Hong Kong seams! ☺️ I shared a mini tutorial last night in my stories and added them to the Highlights for your reference. . I taught myself this technique through trial and error; If you know of a different method I would love to learn from you! . Steps: 1. Sew pockets and iron the pocket seams towards the back. 2. Sew bias tape to pockets, stop at the seam line. Do not sew into the seams! Cut the bias tape so that it extends beyond the back skirt/pants seam allowance. . 3. The pocket bias tape gets incorporated into the back seam allowance. Sew bias tape to back seam allowance, slide the pocket bias tape under and sew. Trim excess pocket bias tape. . And voila! A clean, professional finish every time. I hardly use my serger anymore as I prefer this technique. I still have room for improvement but practice makes perfect! Hope this was helpful. ❤ . Beautiful dark navy broderie Anglaise from @fabricoutlet which was yummy to stitch. Hand hemmed sleeves, elastic neckline, pullover - and added pockets! Why why WHY do so many patterns not have pockets? Easy add. Tried out a different ratio of tiers, making the first at the waist narrow and going wider. I will live in it this summer!
