Finally arrived in LA: LAX is a nightmare still with the ongoing construction /expansion. Getting an Uber is a nightmare also. I decided to stay in an Art Deco 1930ish residence & wasn’t disappointed. Back in the day, they really didn’t have plastics, sort of, they had Bakelite, a precursor. That black dot ⚫️ above the handle is a self locking door for the closets. No air conditioning just an industrial strength fan with a small timer ⏲ in the back (& that doesn’t function either). Dial “0” to have engineering turn on/off heating or the AC. The old fashioned push flush toilet was a bonus (push it , hold, count to 10, release). So was the bathtub shower with New York City style black & white tiles. Many of LA’s streets resembles those of their Northern cousins, disjointed. But the bed is comfy & the room is warm. Finally, finally landed yesterday in Houston TX. United Airlines, the venerable airline, was late as usual due to the snafus @SFO. The aircraft arrived late & we were first in the taxiing queue. Took a short nap (15min)-we were last in the queue-45min delay. Sat in first class with two stewardesses, one of whom was rude to me & my seat mate mentioned it each time. I had waved to get her attention to obtain a seat belt extender (about 3” for me) & she announced to both first/business class “I see YOU! You’ll have to wait, we’re not going anywhere & YOU’RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE!!” The other flight attendant quietly gave me a belt extender. Just after take off, she announced the food list AND snacks. That tray you see comes with oatmeal or a ham/egg/ cheese croissant sandwich plus the fruit/yogurt tray. Afterwards, she asked if I wanted something else-snacks? DEAR she snapped, THEY’RE for the last section ONLY! At the end of the flight, she coldly announced thanks for taking United, we PRIDE ourselves on our customer service. REALLY She’s the flight purser(name withheld): short Caucasian, bobbed hair with glasses, thin as a toothpick. I still fly United (although JetBlue is my favorite & United is my 2nd favorite), FL1958 SFO➡️IAH, 0900- 1530H. I’ve included the Safety Sheet for our 737-900 aircraft. At IAH airport, they have fully automated self serve kiosks, giant islands with food/sundries/ magazines/souvenirs-no photos, crowd of people there. At the gift shop, I purchased these doughnuts. You can get an Uber, Lyft, etc by standing in the TNC lane. This is my Houston hotel, the Hyatt Regency, they gave me my same room for my birthday vacation. You’ll notice a desk height white device-they’re NOT speakers. I’ve allergies. It’s an air purifier, air flow management system that has a barely perceptible hum. It scours & pulls in the room’s air, filtering out particulates & releasing (in my opinion) surgery suite quality air back. One of the few hotels worldwide that has these. That’s one of two gadget bags on the bed from the airport. Comfy convertible sofa. The room comes with a combo closet/microwave/coffee/tea station with two bottles complimentary water. My first dinner, my first meal@hotel. I traditionally order room service when I arrive-in this instance, I was a bit queasy from the air turbulent flight & fruits. This is a six ounce medium rare steak with Merlot sauce, fluffiest mashed potatoes & veggies. SW style BBQ chicken wings (1st BBQ of the trip) with ranch dressing, giant fruit cobbler in a skillet (managed to consume 75% & leftover tomorrow). Sorry about the delay but I get hacked weekly by the same person. The person is skilled enough to crack 2-factor security, bypass Apple’s security & hack apps. Anyway, I thought I’d show you some of the gear I brought for my mini vacation. Most you’ve seen in past postings. For local trips, I’ve begun packing & using, just in case, a ➡️Big Blue 28W solar panel (7W x4=28W). It comes with 4carabiners to attach to backpacks, other gear. It’s a two(2) port hub with included micro USB cable. I’ve added a multi-cable adapter in the zippered pouch(not shown). ➡️The days are getting warmer on the west coast but for the past few months we’ve had cold fronts-this is a heated undershirt/sweater/pajama top by Jinpei (Amazon). It’s very thin though the overall weight is heavy due to the battery pack/charger. Charge for about 3H, you’ll get 2.5-3H of warmth across your back & waist. The heat eventually filters down to the elbow & upper pelvis. For ➡️coffee ☕️, I’ve a variety of self heating thermoses including the Cauldron Fyre. However, I’m keeping the luggage weight down so am using the venerable Cozy Cup- a thick, flexible heating sleeve that is a USB charged with a built in USB cable. Insert your beverage cup, & when the liquid becomes a bit cooler, press the side button. In minutes it’ll be hot. ➡️Sensky motion night light(Amazon). Very good, accompanies me on all trips. ➡️Flashlight, laser/light ruler, another generic nightlight.
