Finally arrived in LA: LAX is a nightmare still with the ongoing construction /expansion. Getting an Uber is a nightmare also. I decided to stay in an Art Deco 1930ish residence & wasn’t disappointed. Back in the day, they really didn’t have plastics, sort of, they had Bakelite, a precursor. That black dot ⚫️ above the handle is a self locking door for the closets. No air conditioning just an industrial strength fan with a small timer ⏲ in the back (& that doesn’t function either). Dial “0” to have engineering turn on/off heating or the AC. The old fashioned push flush toilet was a bonus (push it , hold, count to 10, release). So was the bathtub shower with New York City style black & white tiles. Many of LA’s streets resembles those of their Northern cousins, disjointed. But the bed is comfy & the room is warm. Onboard the RMS Queen Mary Hotel Ship : Take the elevators to the 3rd deck & enter. Lounge & corridors, elevators spaced throughout the ship. That loooong corridor? I’m located a bit farther than halfway. This is the Promenade Deck where the namesake Promenade Cafe is (where I had breakfast today). There are three shops here specializing in clothing, sundries/souvenirs & libations (wine glasses, ice buckets, etc). There’s daily wine tastings as well. Sorry about the delay but I get hacked weekly by the same person. The person is skilled enough to crack 2-factor security, bypass Apple’s security & hack apps. Anyway, I thought I’d show you some of the gear I brought for my mini vacation. Most you’ve seen in past postings. For local trips, I’ve begun packing & using, just in case, a ➡️Big Blue 28W solar panel (7W x4=28W). It comes with 4carabiners to attach to backpacks, other gear. It’s a two(2) port hub with included micro USB cable. I’ve added a multi-cable adapter in the zippered pouch(not shown). ➡️The days are getting warmer on the west coast but for the past few months we’ve had cold fronts-this is a heated undershirt/sweater/pajama top by Jinpei (Amazon). It’s very thin though the overall weight is heavy due to the battery pack/charger. Charge for about 3H, you’ll get 2.5-3H of warmth across your back & waist. The heat eventually filters down to the elbow & upper pelvis. For ➡️coffee ☕️, I’ve a variety of self heating thermoses including the Cauldron Fyre. However, I’m keeping the luggage weight down so am using the venerable Cozy Cup- a thick, flexible heating sleeve that is a USB charged with a built in USB cable. Insert your beverage cup, & when the liquid becomes a bit cooler, press the side button. In minutes it’ll be hot. ➡️Sensky motion night light(Amazon). Very good, accompanies me on all trips. ➡️Flashlight, laser/light ruler, another generic nightlight. Just a quick note that I received, The International Chocolate Salon will be on March 30, 2019. Drive down 9th Ave off Lincoln Way, the nice brick structure on your left, is the County Fair Building Hall of Flowers. It’s clean, spacious, has modern bathroom facilities. Parking can be a nightmare, so public transportation &/or on demand Uber/Lift or whatever suits you. More gadgets/gear that I brought with me during my mini vacation. Additionally, one of my mainstay solar panels is either the ➡️Power Film Solar Charger or the Goal Zero Nomad-7, currently charging other gear at home. Purchased from Amazon, camping stores, some hardware stores, this rollup solar charger is approximately 5-7W panel with an integrated 18650Li Ion battery. It’ll take approxi-mately 3H initially to charge this solar charger. It’s lightweight, water proof panel(I’d still place it in a Ziplock bag because the charging ports at either ends are exposed). This is the ➡️RAVPower multi- functional tool: 6700mAH power bank, WiFi router that enhances the existing router signal, memory backup using a microSD card. I would suggest if you had a 64Gb smartphone or tablet, insert an 80Gb or higher microSD card. It has a WAN port to insert a hotel room’s internet cable, turning it into a wireless system. After charging it using a micro-USB cable, you’ll notice 4lighted dots, each representing 25% charging increments. This is a generic ➡️Amazon night light with motion detector, auto-on, flashlight only. I now carry two types of motion detection night lights. On almost every trip, something occurs with the hotel room lights, corridor or the hotel’s electrical system. Luckily the Hyatt doesn’t suffer from these issues. At the Hyatt Regency San Francisco, you’ll find these in every room. It’s a limited room delivery food service from The Market covering breakfast, lunch/ dinner. The Eclipse Cafe has a more extensive menu that can also be taken out by the guest as The Eclipse doesn’t deliver. The Market has delicious grab & go sandwiches, salads, yogurts, beverages, wine & beer plus ice cream. ➡️There’s a Convenience card that shows you what’s available from the front desk if you forget something. They have quite an extensive list which is not shown. ➡️There’s a large information sheet printed on both sides of San Francisco abbreviated. On Fri 3/15/2019 I arrived a bit late due to the protest march or whatever that rerouted traffic. The area was swarming with police. Anyway, here’s a video of the Hyatt Regency San Francisco’s elevators. I enjoy riding & studying the different elevator types: modern, steam powered, pusher lift, cage door interiors, floor announcements by synth- esized voice, interactive systems. At around 12PM, when most guests are away from the hotel, an army of housekeeping staff descends upon each floor to clean & make up the rooms. They’re closely followed by personnel equipped with laundry carts to change a room’s bedsheets, linen & towels. All my meals were delivered from The Market at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco hotel. The first day Friday, 3/15/2019, I ordered all the beverages in advance to cover a Friday through Sunday: Hint Fizz Blackberry infused sparkling water, Purity Lemonade (15% juice, should have opted for The Naked Juice, 100% juice), Sierra Mist(1bottle). The ➡️first day Friday I had spaghetti & meatballs, a slightly peppery loaded, thick clam chowder with a warmed sourdough bread & Land-O-Lakes butter pats, apple galette, fruit tart,Sierra Mist soda. Plus 2-large fruit cups which went to the mini fridge. ➡️On Saturday, had a large order of the Kid’s menu pizza; charcuterie & cheese with apricot plate, house smoked pastrami Reuben sandwich with coleslaw, 2bananas, Peter’s Kettle Corn Cinnamon, Purity Lemonade, house made kettle chips & dip from The Eclipse Cafe. On➡️Saturday & Sunday for breakfast, I had a fruit cup each with a Purity Lemonade. For lunch on Sunday, I had a 2nd charcuterie & cheese plate (also in the fridge) with a Hint Fizz Blackberry sparkling water. After each meal, I walked four loops on the floor (300feetx4=1200 feet x 3=3600feet). Also did mid-day exercises & late evening exercises as well, culminating in approximately 1.2miles/day. Celebrating my birthday (3/14/YYYY) at a local hotel . When it’s my birthday, I celebrate the whole month as I have since I was a kid. There’s a short welcoming foyer with an ice chest that leads to a combo bedroom & living room with an outdoor patio terrace. Arrived 3/15/2019 yesterday amidst the shouting of a protest(?) parade late. Inside the closet is one of those ubiquitous safes-but beware of the ceiling-the panels open up into a utility crawl space. I’ve placed sensors should a device or a short person decides to invade my party atmosphere. Since last year, it seems they switched suppliers to Pharmacopia from CO Bigelow Apothecaries. You can regulate the temperature of the shower from freezing cold (half a turn to 12-o’clock), lukewarm (12-o’clock to 9-o’clock), warm (9-o’clock to 3-o’clock), to scalding hot (2-full turns to the right). I like to steam it up a bit but not too hot.
