SOOOO in love with how this bubble paint planet art project turned out. It took us 2 days to finish the 3 step process but I have to say it was totally worth it. ⭐️First, we used bubble paint to blow bubbles onto the paper. ⭐️The next day after the paper dried, we cut the planets out and glued them to a large sheet of black paper. ⭐️Last, we made star stamps with yellow paint and a star cookie cutter. . Prewriting patterns on the chalk board ⁣ Chalk and water painting is great on the floor but I decided to set up this outdoor chalkboard on the fence years ago as a vertical surface is easier to work on and good for posture.⁣ ⁣ For this activity, I drew prewriting patterns on the board and gave the girls a jug of water and paint brush each to trace them. Tip: wetting the chalk first makes them brighter on the black board. ⁣ ⁣ We've been looking at prewriting patterns an awful lot lately as a lead in to some alphabet work for my four year old. Prewriting patterns are the basic movements required to form every letter of the alphabet. When children are familiar with them, it can potentially make writing a little easier to master. ⁣ ⁣ For my youngest this activity is more about hand-eye coordination as she covers the patterns. The kids squeezed on colored water (a cup full of water with just a little splash of liquid watercolors - one of the only times we EVER dilute liquid watercolors) and watched their towers absorb colors and dissolve (not “melt”). . DIY sight word popsicle push . . . This one’s been pointing out words whenever we go and asking me what it says so I made this sight word matching activity for him. The other day at Woolies, while I was paying, he saw a word and said “c-o-l-l-e-c-t what that say?” I often hear that learning letter sounds are more important than letter names, but he’s currently interested in spelling out words so that’s what we’ve been doing! After I read each word, he would tell me what it is - “car like our car in garage” and then match it to the word on the box. I’ve made a few of these before with numbers, colours, lower and uppercase alphabet - they are so easy to make and the boys love poking the sticks in! ⭐️Rotation Day ⭐️⁣ ⁣ Here's a look at what we'll be playing with this week...⁣ ⁣ •My Pen Pals Prewriting Kits⁣ •Upper and lowercase latter matching ⁣ •Connect and create set⁣ •Number magnets for the easel ⁣ •Shape tracing board ⁣ •Shape-O⁣ •Magnetic bug catching game⁣ •Occupation puzzles ⁣ •Number puzzle ⁣ ⁣ About our rotations...⁣ ⁣ These activities are aimed at children aged 4.5 and 2.5. The toys on our activity shelves fall into three categories - Maths, Literacy and fine motor. They are arranged in baskets and trays on open shelves to make them visible and easily accessible. The children can help themselves to these shelves at any time. ⁣ ⁣ The activities are rotated every 1-2 weeks depending on the children's interest levels. Our toys that are out of rotation are stored in our spare room. They are shared among six tubs, with a variety of learning areas in each, so I can pull out and put them straight on the shelves at the next rotation with little effort. Every now and again I remove toys that are no longer of use or interest. ⁣ ⁣ I'm frequently asked if the girls ever ask for items that are not already out. Very rarely! We also have other toy areas within the play room such as a small world bench, art trolley and easel, sensory table and dramatic play area so there's always lots to do. ⁣ ⁣ If I know where an item is from I have tagged the shop.
