My new tailors ham!!! It was custom made by my dad & I (dad gets most of the credit ). We finished it today in 110 degree Arizona heat but it was totally worth it! I’m super excited to use it when I get back to my studio in California. . . I worked on a few different patterns & samples in my studio to get the fullness that I was looking for. . . I’m going to be designing a few more pressing tools later for other purposes. There’a a possibility that I may be taking custom orders if there’s enough interest but that may happen much later. Another thing I got done this weekend (actually, Sunday afternoon) is a new pair of #persephonepants in a breezy linen... obviously black. I had several pants options planned for the summer (a category which is lacking in my closet since last year I apparently only made dresses for myself and others and a pair of shorts I never wear) but after reaching for my winter duck canvas Persephones over and over despite the heat, I gave in and made a new pair! • This time I opted for a longer length. I am still not completely sold, as I feel hemming a couple of centimeters higher would be more flattering for me. I made my usual modifications (sway back, graded the waist in by 4 cm) as well as drafting a curved waistband this time. I think this really makes a big difference in comfort, as it lies nice and flat even when sitting. I also omitted the pockets, since my waist is narrow and therefore the pockets always end up on the curve of my hips instead of the front, making them useless. I think I'll add a patch pocket on the back, or ask Husband-san to make me a funny pack to carry my keys and phone while in the lab • The top is a self drafted tank in silk, the second thing I ever made. Every time I was it I feel it should be turned into rags, but my inner sustainability freak resists this idea. I bet most of the sewing world has already seen one of the newest patterns from @helens__closet. This pattern was in the works for a while and I have to say I’m so impressed with Helen’s commitment to providing quality patterns. Even though the pattern was pretty much ready for release, Helen pulled it back to completely redraft it so that it would be the best it can be. I think it speaks so much to Helen’s dedication to her craft In the past I have made three #ashtontop that I’ve worn over and over again, until I got pregnant. This one is made using updated pattern, with added invisible zippers at the side seams for easy nursing access. Was unternehmt ihr bei dieser Hitze? Eigentlich hatte ich heute einige Punkte auf meiner To-Do Liste stehen, doch dann dachte ich mir, man muss auch mal nichts tun. An solch heißen Tagen habe ich nicht wirklich Lust mich tagsüber an die Nähmaschine zu setzen. Also ab ans Wasser, ein Buch lesen und braun (naja, in meinem Fall rot) werden. Nachdem ich schon „Die Geschichte der Bienen“ von Maja Lunde gelesen habe, bin ich jetzt an „Die Geschichte des Wassers“. Habe mir vorgenommen wieder öfter zu lesen und mir auch die Zeit dafür zu nehmen. Ich kann euch das erste Buch übrigens sehr empfehlen! Mir hat es richtig gut gefallen. Remember my red&pink #nightgownchic dress from a week ago? Well that was my second time using that pattern. Here was my first version and it’s the flowy breezy dress of my summer dreams! I took one of my paintings and turned it into fabric with @spoonflower (available in my shop— link in profile), bought 3 yards of it printed on chiffon and sewed this @mccallpatterncompany #m7834 dress This has the view “ A”collar but I pinned a (removable) bow on top for drama. The sleeves are a cropped version of view “A” as well. . . I wore this to the #tabithamademedoit @tabithasewer meetup (and even slept in it thst night bc it really is like a nightgown!) and I will be wearing it again to my 20 year high school reunion this month! I’m so excited I got this done just in the nick of time for #sewalltheflowers! Here are all the details! The skirt is the #meadowskirt from @twigandtale with the button front and a narrower waist band. Fabric is from a thrifted white linen rayon curtain that I dyed with #jacquardsolarfast avocado dye and lavender flower imprints! It was a process! I cut the pattern pieces and then had to wait for a day that had the right amount of sun. It’s recommended to put the fabric in hot water or wash immediately after dying so that the unprocessed dye under the object (flowers in this case) washes out and you get a nice white outline. After this, I let the pieces air dry because I didn’t want to deal with extra fraying. I had one of the pockets on my porch and the wind blew it into the neighbor’s fenced yard and into their compost pile, so I had to wait a couple days to get that. I then sewed it up, and washed it with solarfast wash which I guess ensures that all of the unpressed dye is really out. Yay! I love it!
